New Member intro

I am new at this so I am probably doing this wrong but I am a new member and I guess this is a new member intro. I have the following diagnosed diseases dermatomyositis, churg strauss disease and celiac sprue disease. I am on 20-80mg of prednisone per day and 15mg a week of methotrexate. One of the things I want to find a out is if anybody else who is a member of neurotalk who is on high dose prednisone is having trouble with severely sensitive teeth as a side effect? daniels9303

Hi daniels9303,
My mom was on Pred for quite awhile @ 80 mg for awhile then adjusted as needed.
I don't recall her mentioning that her teeth were sensitive specifically.
But I think it drew the calcium out of them and from her bones.

She did get a fractured ankle bone from tripping over a stick and since then she's had to have 4 teeth crowned due to cracking and breaks.

That was years ago and I searched on Pred info way back then- that was one thing that stuck in my mind about it.

Welcome to Neurotalk.

Well, you sure seem to be in the running for the grand slam of autoimmmune conditions.

Three forums here where you might be able to get some insight into issues with prednisone and other immune modulators:

I can't answer the question regarding prednizone, but I did want to take a minute to welcome you. :)

Welcome!

Hi Daniel

I have sensitive teeth and MS. Everytime I have high dose IV solumedrol it drives my teeth crazy. I do seem some correlation between methlyprednisolone and sensitive teeth. I also remember that the year I was on Methotrexate (shots not oral), I had to get more check ups with the dentist. So maybe between the two meds, that could be what's causing the sensitivity.

You might want to have a chat with your dentist.
