I need to vent or cry or something...

I don’t know whether to cry or beat someone up….sorry this is such a long post but I needed to vent and most all my good friends just moved to this board and I needed a little bit of love and hugs…

My daughter and her boyfriend traveled to SLC to pick up a new puppy last Saturday. They already have a five-month-old American Pitt Bull Terrier. I know everyone has given these wonderful dogs a bad reputation but this dog is a sweetheart. I’m a grandma to a dog…they can say, do ya want to go to Grandma’s and he will wait at the door until they bring him to my house. We are neighbors and just a wheat field away. I really think when the warm weather comes and he finds out where I live he will be running though the field to my house.

Anyway…back to the new puppy. She was a beautiful chocolate brown, a sweetheart of a puppy, same age and the pup they already have…Brody. They picked her up last Saturday. She was beautiful. I know I keep talking about her in the past tense…

As we played with her and loved her, we noticed that she had something weird going on with her right hind leg. Our daughter took her to the vet today to have her spayed and he took a look at the leg and told us that she had Hip Dysplasis and that it would be a waste of money and time to spay her because of how progressed the disease was. The vet said it is rare for a young pup to have it this bad. She hardly had a hip socket at all. Of course, he told us what to expect as far as a prognosis goes. As we watched her the rest of the day we could see her pain. She wouldn’t play like a puppy does…she just laid on the couch and watched the other puppy play. The doc told us that she would never be better than she was today.

I think you all know where this is going…the vet lives in our neighborhood and is the greatest guy and we totally trust him. My daughter just fell apart because she really grew to love this little girl as she called her…Rosie…

Well, tonight around 10pm we had the vet put her down. We did the right thing because of how sick she was. A puppy should not be in pain.

My anger is directed towards the previous owners. This pup had had all of her shots and had been seen by a vet so you know that they knew of her condition. My daughter has called them many times over the past few day and they are not answering her calls. They gave this pup away with the pretence that all was well. How dare they…put this horrible responsibility on my daughter to put this pup down…I am so angry I want to spit.

So sorry this was so long…:(

Tammy, I just cried as I read your post. What a heartless person to do this to someone AND an innocnet puppy.

I am so sorry that you and your family had to go through this. I know how quickly you can become attached to a pet. My cats are members of the family - just thinking about something happening to them or them getting sick can make me cry. :(

You did the right thing - as painful as it may have been - because you put the puppy's welfare first. More than the thoughtless previous owner did.

They will pay for this - might not be right now - but they will pay for it.

Tammy,

My heart breaks for you and your family. It is so very hard to loose a furkid. Mine mean the world to me as I can tell Rosie did to all of you.

Just a thought- if she was registered or comes from reg stock report the breeders and prior owners to the APBT association. Maybe being able to prevent another pup and its family from having to go thru this will help ease your grief and anger somewhat. Just a thought.

Hope the Brody is doing ok as animal can sense loss too. Dog biscuit being nudged his way.

Aw Tammy:hug: I feel your pain. I am so sorry about your puppy and I certainly know what it feels like to have to put the puppy down.

A couple of months ago I had a beautiful puppy named Remi. I got her at 8 weeks old and immediately fell in love with her. She never acted normal and took her to the vet several times.

It turned out she had intestinal problems which according to my vet if she was vet checked before I got her they would have noticed. She was a very sick puppy and because there was no way he could fix the problem at 12 weeks I had to put her down.

I cried for days Tammy! I am so sorry you and your daughter have to go through this. My thoughts and prayers are with you both

Tami, So sorry to hear this.

The poor little puppy, at least she was in a good place and is out of her pain now.

There's a special place deep down under for those people, never fear!

So glad to see u made it here, but so sorry to hear the news. But if I were a puppy in pain your place would have been top picks for to go! Sorry she had to be put down, but as you said seeing them so miserable just isn't fair.

Wanna go find the prvious owners? I still have a good softball bat, we can show them what its like to be in pain? :mf_argue:
