Hi Cazzie,
I've had simple complex partial sz. for over 30 yrs. It will often start out as an aura sz. where I get a nervous feeling in my stomach and I see colors in my eyes. At that moment I've learned to tighten up my muscles and make my hands into tight fists by doing this it will stop the sz.
Complex partial sz. are when only one area of the brain is firing neurons instead of both sides of the brain. This type of sz. is very hard to control and it can make a person very moody and sometimes a person will want to cry for no reason.
I've found that taking diamox and mysoline the 2 best AED's to help control this type of sz. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

I also have Simple and Complex Partial seizures. They are two different types of seizures although they are both in the classification called Partial seizures. They both start, originate in one area of the brain rather than all over the brain like in generalized seizures. That area of epileptogenic activity where the cells are misfiring and where the seizures gets their start is called a focus. Simple Partials can be felt in different ways depending on the location of those cells in the brain. One does not lose consciousness with Simple partials. If the activity involves a larger area around those cells, the seizure can become complex and more involved as far as how it affects you. One does lose consciousness in Complex Partials. You also may lose bladder control etc and should have no or little memory of the event. You may notice that over time if seizures are not stopped, the seizures get worse which is due to the increase in the area of involvement. yur doc does need to know about changes you experience. I have not had a Complex Partial in 10 years almost, and have only a very rare aura ( very quick simple partial - weird feeling for me) that only I know about. I had surgery in 1998 for my epilepsy. Finding an Epileptologist to treat my epilepsy and offer more treatments options made a huge difference. I encourage you to find a patient oriented Comprehensive Epilepsy Center if you do not have success in stopping your seizures with your present doc and medication. Hope this helps. Tattoo

I to have simple complex partials they say they are the hardest ones to control but I tend to belive that is what you want to belive thats only true if you think it and let it take your life over.mine start with noise in my head and from there it turns into a aura and then a ful seizure.I have lived with them all my life so I am use to them by now.yet some times they do caught me off guard and throw me for a loop.I have also been diganogs with the onset of glaucoma they say that god only gives you only what you can handle this is the way I choses to look at things for now and it helps to except rather then to fight.when I go into my seizure I sit down if I can and let it pass for you see I get a aura that tells me someting is coming that I need to brace for and in the 44 years I have never lost bladder control thank god but I have heard some people do.so please do talk to your neuro in detail where ever you live about your worryies and concerns.they can help you feel better about your struggles sometimes

There are simple partials and complex partials. The simple partials you're conscious and alert, but your senses are a little messed up. You can hear, see, smell, or feel things that aren't there. Also you can have Deja Vu. My simple partial is Deja Vu. The complex partial is basically a photo copy of an absence seizure. You go totally unconscious, and then when you're conscious again. You're totally confused for a little while. Then when you're totally back to normal, you have no idea you had a seizure unless a person tells you that you did. During half the complex partials I hallucinate during the confusion. They say that simple partial and complex partial are the hardest to get under control. That can also be because of why you're having the seizures. I have them from scar tissue on the right and left temporal lobes. I've been on EVERY med on the market, and have had the VNS and currently the RNS. Since nothing has controlled them my doctor says that my epilepsy is severe. But i must say, the RNS has helped me some.
