Medical Marijuana in Texas

The conservative atmosphere here in Texas has made using marijuana for medical reasons just about impossible. For a long time, anybody that suggested it was shouted down as a pro-drug hippie liberal!

Just recently, the Texas Legislature passed a law that allows prosecutors to bypass the jail booking process for certain marijuana offenses. What this means is that if you're found in possession, the cop can choose to write you a ticket and send you on your way. This is the most lenient that Texas has been in years.

All the Democratic candidates have been advocating more lenient rules on medical marijuana, but we're still looking at a no tolerance policy here in Texas.

Tim Timmons, a Garland resident who has multiple sclerosis, is an advocate of medical marijuana. He has issued a challenge to state legislators - take him to jail if they think what he is doing is wrong.

Quote:

"Come arrest me. I'm here waiting for you," Timmons said in the presence of a Star-Telegram videographer, after smoking marijuana from a pipe at his home. "You can put the handcuffs on me."
