question for the copaxone takers here...
 

My first month on Copaxone went wonderfully... little reaction, little to no pain with injections... now.. I am on my second month (second box of syringes) and it is hell.... pain instantly with injection (I use autoject) and the pain continues for at least a week in that area... is this normal? the change from month to month? I called shared solutions and was not happy with the nurse I was assigned to... thought I would ask my trusty MS'ers here!!!

Hi Chaz - I found that when I used the autoinjector I had more site reactions that if I self injected. Did you change your autoinjector to another setting?

Additionally, someone gave the advice of taking a shower before you inject. Man, this really helped a lot. I started doing my injections in the a.m. instead of before bed so that I could do them right after my shower.

Additionally, as time goes on the site reactions lessen. I never noticed a difference from month to month but other Copaxoners might have experienced this.

On another site, MSW, I remember reading something about this but don't remember the details. You could probably do a search there and come up with a few threads. Others have experienced something similar to what you have been experiencing. Sadly, since I never noticed a difference, I really didn't pay much attention to that thread.

You could always call the pharmacy where you get your medicines. I get mine from Curascript and they have always been helpful. Although, my brother trained many MSers how to inject and trained me as well. Any issues that I had I usually talked to him about.

Hang in there and hopefully other Copaxoners will chime in with some advice.

BTW - Thanks for this thread as it is another reminder to me to pay attention to what my body is saying. I still have trouble doing that. LOL

Hey,Marissa it is possiable that maybe you got a bad batch of dull needles that has happened to some people. What's your setting on ? I use the auto inject too and I change my settings for when I inject in my stomach to a 8 have a lot of fat there haha and stay around a 6 for the the other sites the only injection site the really bothers me is when it's Thigh time like tonight is I get alot of redness and a big welt there,but it does go away days later. btw what did the SS nurse say to you ?

just wanted to say that I have never had a problem either, but thats not to say that you didnt get a bad batch of syringes, I know at one time there was some talk on the other site about that.....so sorry that Shared Solutions wasnt helpful, I would maybe try the pharmacy you get it from....good luck!

I remember over on world that there was in fact a bad batch of dull needles. Call the place where you get your script filled. Plus, you really will need to adjust the settings for each specific area. Also, one thing I learned was that sometimes you are pressing too hard down on the area, making it go even deeper than necessary and that too could be causing such large reactions. And remember it can take up to 6-7 months for your body to adjust. Best of luck, keep up posted.

I have that problem too, this is my 4th box and some are sharp and some are dull. I do not use auto inject. It seems though that which ever way you go the problem exists. Sometimes the same box will have a mix of dull and sharp needles. I also think the pain comes from hitting a blood vessel every now and then.

The reactions have lessened considerably now, and are just confined to the injection site, but yes the irritation lasts for several days in that area. good luck
