question....

have any of you ever had the problem of low blood sugar levels? I was not feeling very good on Monday and was able to get in to see my Neuro, they did some blood work and the only thing that came back abnormal was my blood sugar, it was 53 (normal is 80 - 120) so I was just wondering if this was an MS thing or something else going on....My husband is diabetic and we have checked it a few times since then and it has been normal, except for yesterday afternoon before I ate dinner and then it was a bit high at 153....just rather weird, thanks for any responses!

I used to be borderline hypoglycemic. I was tested several times and my blood sugar was always around 50-55. Doc said it was really nothing to worry about, just that I would be tired. This was a long time before I was ever dx'd with MS. I also had low iron and was anemic. Not sure if they were all related, but I eventually had a hysterectomy due to cervical cancer and all 3 problems have gone away.

Since I now get my blood drawn a lot, I always ask what my blood sugar level is and it always hovers around 90 - 95. Normal range.

I hope you find some answers...maybe you can have a complete physical and see if any of your other blood tests are out of whack! Cholesterol, triglycerides? Who knows...just a thought!

Have you been checked for other things such as anaemia? Usually a blood sugar will not cause problems unless it gets down lower than that and one is diabetic. I would suggest having a Biochemical profile and they can check everything out.

Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Alison,

I have problems with my blood sugars as well. Mine fluctuates up & down especially, when I'm on steroids! I don't feel well at all whether it's too low or too high. Yuck.

If it were me, I'd get to my Internist & have them check it out. It could be nothing but it's not something you want to ignore. If your doctor runs an A1C blood test (I think that's what it's called), it will give a 30 day average of your blood sugar.

From what I understand, low blood sugar can be one of the early signs of diabetes. Luckily, if caught early, a simple change in diet & lifestyle may be all you need.

I think a good Internist is essential when you have a chronic disease. You need somebody that sees the big picture. Neuro's are only interested in you for your brain. ;)

Good luck & hope you feel better soon.
