What's good for a burn?

I was making french fries this afternoon and burn my wrist pretty good. It has already blistered but I can't get it to calm down. Any ideal on what to use on it?
My Drs. office was closed so they said for me to go to the ER. Like I am going ot go down and sit for 3 hours to deal with them.

I have ran water over it and put ice on it. I know, I know, that's a no-no for RSD and yes, this is my RSD arm.

Any thought on what might help it.

Hi Ada...

I'm sorry this has happened....

Here are a couple of things I have used that calm a burn.
  1. Bacitracin
  2. Neosporin
  3. Aloe Vera
  4. cool damp cloths...not ice cold.
Is the burn blistered? If so, leave the blisters alone. Don't break the blisters. If the blisters have opened make sure to clean them as best you can then apply an antibiotic ointment (Bacitracin or Neorsporin)

Hope this helps.

aww a cold wet cloth.. except you are blistering so you have to be careful.. I would go to emerge anyway myself burns are nothing to fool around with. (says me who had skins grafted after an oil burn)

The ice is not a good idea at all.. a cool cloth or imerse the area in coolish water, and dont break the skin very important.
How large a burn area is it?

the water helps coldish but not too cold cause it may cause worse damage.
pull it out every bit but try to keep the pain to a minimum that way..

Its important for you to get your pain levels down now Desi and try and keep em there, and if you decide to go to the hospital make sure you continue to keep the pain down in this way the best you can going there too.

Hi Girls,

Thanks so much for that help.

I did blister and I finally have got it calmed down some. I never thought about Neosporin. The area is about an 1 1/2 square. I am going to call my Dr. tomorrow and have him call me something in. I won't burst the blisters.

Sandel, it's Ada, not Desi. You must be pretty tired tonight girl. Or you were thinking about both of us at the same time.

I was making the boys fish and fries and the I splattered the fish grease on me. I hardly ever do things like that but here lately, I swear, I do some of the dumbest things.

I think what bothers me the most is my spelling. I get letters reversed and can't seem to spell anything right. Too much stress I guess.

Thanks girls for the advice.

somehow i missed this today.

a grease burn needs to be washed off with cool water and soap. to get the cooking grease off.

like abbie said...do NOT pop the blister. it's keeping the germs out. your body will absorb the water in the blister.

i'm a fan of neosporin. they even make one with a pain reliever in it. kinda numbs it. even putting some tooth stuff like oragel or ambisol helps. ( i keep that in my kitchen )

I know it is too late for me to be telling you this, but I have always used just good ole Mayo on burns.
Not sure what is in it but it calms it down almost immediately and prevent blistering.
Sounds crazy I know, but it works every time....and unfortunately I have burnt myself on numerous
occasions while cooking, I am clumsy by nature....hahahahah.
But I am glad you were able to get it calmed down and will be calling the doctor tomorrow.
Love, Peace & Blessings,

Hey Ada...

If you're going to have the doc call something in for you...

Silvadene (not sure that's spelled correctly) works GREAT!!

It's only available by prescription, it is for burns, and it WONDERFUL!!

That's what the docs gave me when I had a 3rd degree burn on my hand. I barely have a scar now.

Hope you are feeling better today!

Thanks girls for the help.

Mayo, I have used that before Marla. I never thought of it though. I often wonder how people can keep these things in their heads forever. Old folk remedies. I grew up with those but I still can't remember them.

Silvidine, that's what my nurse recomended. She did call my Dr. and he called me last night to see if I was ok. He told me to come in today and he will take a look at the burn. I don't know if I will bother him though. Some of the blisters burst last night. I will have him to call that in for me.

I hardly ever do anything like that but here lately I have just been stressed and moving too fast.

Curious, you always crack me up with that monkey. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks to all of you.

Ada,
Now the blisters have burst you need to gaurd against infection. I am glad you are seeing your doctor.
It will need to be covered by some non adherent dressing and depending on how big it is, some antibiotic cream. Silvazine is the best I think.
Please do not ever use food of any type on a burn, it tends to actually help cook the area as it retains the heat in the burn.
Immediate first aid is to run it under a running water tap for as long as you can stand it. Ice is not a good idea even without RSD.
Hope all is well now
Love Tayla:hug:

I know what you mean Ada, sometimes it takes me a little while to remember the old remedies, or I may have to call my mom, So now I have taken to writing them all down as they come up for quick references and for my family once I am too old to recall everything or when I am gone from this Earth. I am sure they will appreciate it one day. hahahahaha. Probably not until I am not here anymore, because they are always real quick to call me when they need help with some sort of accident or upset tummy or whatever the case may be.

Love, Peace & Blessings,
Marla
