Tired of 'Rules'
For all you new people here, I am a Grandma of 2 wonderful little girls, ages 6 and 1. I live in Evansville, In and they live 3 hours away in Lexington Ky. Last Sunday their power went out and they found out their meter was busted. Luckily they belong to a large church that is blessed with many proffesions and people with huge heart. A master electrician was off on Monday so he was able to devote a lot of his day in putting in a new meter and whatever else had to be done. But he had to do it on his own time the rest of the week. So he finishes last night. My daughter calls the electric company this morning and they tell her to call the inspecter first before they can turn her power on. So the inspector says there should have been a general contractor on the job all along!!!!!! She said she wasn't told that and he just said 'lady I don't make the rules, I just inforce them.' Another family in the church has been housing this family of four since Sunday night. I don't know how much longer they can do that.
What is also bad is that they live in this trailer that would be better off leveled to the ground but my daughter and her husband haven't always made good finacial choices and that's all they can afford. To top it all of, we were planning on going down to see them this weekend. So now that more than likely is off. I know it has just been since Christmas that I've seen those little angels, but I miss them. OK, I feel better just venting. |
I feel for you Doydie. I only have the one grandchild, and he's still little, but I assure you I would be concerned if anything like this happened to him & his parents.
There's nothing wrong with living in a trailer park, and in Australia, it's actually a very popular choice....especially with retired couples or people with limited income. I hope they have their power back on soon, because even though it's summer here, I know it's winter in the States. It's never nice to think your family might be suffering, whether it be because of the cold or anything else. Hugs Doydie, Koala. :grouphug: |
I am sorry, Doydie, that your family is having such a harsh time.
I have twelve grand kids and two great grand kids and wish I had your luxury of seeing them as often as you see yours. Mine are scattered far and wide. Three of them are here in Florida, but, they are almost grown and have all sorts of things they are doing and visiting grand parents is rare. But, that is the way it should be. Things will be brighter for you. Venting is a good thing, feel free to vent any time. :) By the way, mobile homes and trailers are a way of life here. :winky: |
Aw Doyd, I feel your frustration. We want those babies safe, don't we?
God will pull them through, keep the faith. |
I HATE rules too. Well, I like making them . . . I just hate following other people's. :p
I could go on and on about this topic for days, but I won't. :D Oops, oh well . . . they can test and see if it is operating properly at this point, can't they? Cherie |
You know what Doydie..there are ways around the rules, but still stay within them. The work can be signed off by a general contractor...maybe their friend who did the installation work can find one who will be a friend and sign off the work.
That's how it works in the aviation industry. There is certain work that can be done by the aircraft owner but has to be inspected and signed off by a FAA approved A&P/AI. In my line of work, there is some electrical work we can do, but it has to be signed off by a general contractor before we cover it up....some wiring and hooking up hot tubs, lighting etc. It is too bad that the power company was being so rude to your kids. But the inspector was just doing his "job." Sometimes they just don't work well with others!! I hope it all works out well. Take care... |
Aw Doydie,
I don't do rules either - hate 'em and feel that in some circumstances, they're made to be broken. So very glad that there is someone from their church who was able to house them - your daughter is very blessed. Absolutely insane to think in this type of weather the electric company would stick to those rules. GRRR. FG had a good suggestion about the person who did the installation work having a friend who can sign off on the work. And unfortunately she's also right about the inspector doing his job. I hope they can put this issue to rest REAL soon and get the electricity turned back on. |
Yeah, rules can be a pain, but then better to have a safe job done...
My lil flygurl is right though...can't tell you how many times I've done the work and have a friend sign off after its checked. Hope you get to see those babies soon. |
Doydie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hope this problem is taken care of real fast.
I agree with FG. We had an electrical problem years ago, fixed by a friendly electrician and our friendly electrical contractor signed off. Electric Co. put the elec. back on. There is nothing wrong living in a trailer. We have some up this way that are better then some homes. You say your daughter lives in Lexington, Ky. my son lives in Winchester,KY which is only about 20 minutes away. Small World. Jappy :hug: |
We have decided to make a day trip tomorrow to go. At least we can see them for awhile. And I can go see this rich ladies house and all her land and lake and grand piano and everything. She is such a sweet lady.
I know mobile homes can be nice but my daughters isn't. When she first saw it she didn't see the neighborhood. She only saw the large living room with the bay window, the dining room with bay window and wood floors. She didn't see the sloping floors where you actually feel the seperation where the previous owners had added on to it. The lot had so many weeds that she didn't know what kind of land she had. She didn't see the neighbors house that has three bath tubs sitting out in their front yard and a gargole on their porch and all the spare cars that were there for parts. There are no neighbors that she trusts if she has any problems and her daughter is 6 years old and can't play outside. But they are in so much in debt they can't afford to move. My SIL took a job in West Virginia and they put this mobile home up for sale. The job didn't last for long and they moved back to Lexington a year later. They hadn't had one person to look at the trailer while they were gone. |
