Pain is the most frequent reason for physician visits in the United States; estimates indicate that almost half of all Americans seek medical care each year for pain. Although frequently reported, pain is often inadequately controlled in patients and adversely affects quality of life.

The field of pain medicine has undergone considerable change in the past 15 years. Over time, it has been elucidated that some of the dogma associated with current pain therapies may pose problems and should be reconsidered.

In this Web-based, CME/Nursing CE/Pharmacist CE live conference about evolving changes in the chronic pain paradigm, Dr. Lynn Webster will discuss topics, such as understanding the risks for long-term opioid use and tailoring treatment to the patient, and Dr. Payne will discuss the importance of breakthrough pain as a separate component of chronic pain and the role of rapid-onset opioids as a treatment modality.

This live event occurs at 1 PM Eastern time, Thursday, September 7. Come back to this page on September 7, starting at 12:55 PM Eastern time, to connect to the Web conference. You will be able to see and hear the presentations online, as well as submit questions to our speakers as they present.
