Different kinds of ON?
 

I just got back from the eye Dr (I posted a full update under Limbo Check-in) but the Dr said there were different kinds of ON. :confused:

Bottom line he is going to call me and let me know what he thinks, I had to leave to get the kids from schools.

OK, I'm going the answer my own question, I believe the Dr meant (or he did say and I got mixed up) there are different kinds of "Neuritis". He said he thought I might have the one were the vessels at the back of the eye are swollen, that would be Retrobulbar Neuritis.
But I'm still waiting on that call from him.

Hi, Julie. That's probably what he meant. I'm under the impression that Retrobulbar Neuritis is actually still considered ON but just a different type.

Retrobulbar just means that it's behind the eyeball and cannot be observed thru an opthalmoscope (I took medical terminology courses for my medical transcription classes)

I dont think it's different, it just means that the inflammation is in an area where it cant be seen unless you get an MRI.

Most of what I have in my brain will only ever come in handy if I ever get to be on Jeopardy!.

Seeing as how I have a serious public speaking fear, my knowledge is probably worthless. I'd never be able to get out on the stage, much less be able to hit the signalling button.

I used to read encyclopedias as a child just for fun. (now I google stuff, but I still like the encyclopedia's)

I still have my medical terminology books, so if I can, I can try to find definitions for the big words occasionally.

At least when the opthalmologist told me he thought I had optic neuritis, I knew what it was. Before he could explain it, I was already breaking the words down into their definitions.

Optic - pertaining to the eye

Neuritis - disease condition of, or inflammation of a nerve

and of course, I remembered from my classes that ON was a symptom of MS. At that point, I wasnt so thrilled about knowing what it meant.

I'm not sure if it is a different type of neuritis, or whether some doctors call it one thing and others call it the other. I've had to change neuros several times (like 5) because we've moved states from time to time, and I've been unlucky enough to have ON about 4 or 5 times in each eye....never both eyes at once though. Some of my neuros have referred to it as Retrobulbar Neuritis, while others have called it ON.....all have treated it the same.
