needle injury RSD type 2 prognosis
 

Hi,
I am sufferred RSD from an IV trauma. Despite aggressive treatment for months shortly after the onset, my symptoms spread from hands to feet to arms to ankles, knees and shoulders. I would like to hear from you how are you doing. My pain have gone down from unbearable to bearable. However, i am very worried about my future and all the medical bills that incurred. Have anyone gone into full remission from the needle injury RSD? Please share your experience.

I am sorry you are having trouble:( How long since your diagnosis?
Do you have a pain management doctor who has started blocks etc? Is that what you have called aggressive treatment?
Sorry for the questions but early intervention will give you a better chance of getting better and persistance from your doctor might just get you there.

Welcome to Neurotalk, I am so sorry that your RSD has spread.

My name is Alison, I am 13 years old and I suffer from RSD in my left leg and right arm.

The RSD in my leg was caused by an ankle sprain and the RSD in my arm was caused by a knock.

I have had RSD for a year nearly now and so far I haven't found anything that helps with the pain in my leg but I am glad to say that the RSD in my arm IS IN REMISSION, I still have some pain (the pain in my arm is a 3 out of 10 on the pain scale and the pain in my leg is a 8 and a half out of 10 on the pain scale)

I have heard of many people that have been into remission though, it just takes time.

I had suffered RSD for about 9 months. I had gone to 8 specialists and 3 dx me with RSD and the rest of the docs were not sure what i had. I had about 3 nerve blocks-all offered me partial temp relief. My response from the blocks were not so good and thus the doc did not offer me any more block so i was stuck. I then tried one hour of lidocaine infusion. All pain was gone for only 15 minutes. I felt sooooo good to have no pain although the relief was short. I also tried 30x of oxygen therapy, it helped with pain reduction. Recently, i am trying STS therapy. I had some relief in my hands and fingers but not my feet or bones.
Allison, Glad to hear that your arm went into remission. You are so young, perhaps you will go into remission with your leg as well. My question is when your symptoms spread, does that mean your pain had already changed from the SMP to SIP? Does that mean you will not respond to nerve blocks any more?
I am sort of running out of treatment options.

Hey there numb,

If you did have even partial relief from the blocks then they should be continued. If your Lignocaine Infusion helped then it needs to be repeated.
You are only 9 months in, you definitely have not run out of options but please try and insist you have more blocks and if your current doctor says no then please find another who will do them!

I have has RSD/CRPS for over a decade and have many awful problems BUT I still get some relief from blocks so please do not place too much concern onto whether your pain is SMP or SIP.--It may not make too much difference to your response.
