MS facial pain?
 

Does MS facial pain feel like your cheeks are really heavy and the jaw (front part at your cheeks, not the bottom of the jaw) hurt when you move it? And like someone is pressing against your face. And have a buzzing like feeling (it feels like it's numb but if I touch my face I can tell it's not numb).
This feeling I have been having is hard for me to describe.

My pain, that turned out to be TMJ (thought was TN), was jaw pain from clenching my teeth mostly. This happened because of some medication I was on and I had to get a guard for my teeth when I slept. The pain (clenching, ear ringing, etc.) let up as soon as I went off that medication though.

The only other pain I've had in the face was related to my teeth or sinuses. The numbness I had (mouth, lips, tongue, throat) did not cause any pain.

So, I don't know the answer to whether this is MS-related or not . . . but would say that is not likely neuropathy anyway. ;) :D

I don't think there is such of a thing as actual *MS facial pain*. I know that there are some here who have TN, which is an awful facial nerve pain, and seems to accompany MS.

I have facial numbness once in awhile but no pain. Not all people with MS have pain, but a lot do and nerve pain is the worst.:( I've heard of some Neuros saying that there is no pain with MS..:rolleyes: Of course we know better.

Have you talked to your Neuro about your pain and asked for some med to relieve it? Not all meds work for Nerve pain but I believe there are some effective ones out there.

but related to tmj...but now i have been trying to backtrack and discern if any of this could have been ms related--a lot of stress in december--went to dentist and could barely open mouth...then all the whole ms real diagnosis stuff started in jan so hard for me not to somehow link it...but regular doc and neuro guy said not related...

I have not talk to the Dr. yet, it just started the other day. I don't know if it's a sinus thing or not. I try really hard NOT to take decongestants unless I have to because it brings on an asthma attack.

My mom and a good friend both have Fibromyalgia and both have a significant amount of pain, including their face.
The doctor started out thinking Fibro with me since my mom has it, but I didn't fit the standard for trigger points or level of pain.
But, mine ended up being MS, so I guess that is why. I do have pain which I am sure is MS related, but it is not the level of pain I have seen in my mother or friends. :confused: Well, I take that back....my Trigeminal Neuralgia makes up for the lack of pain in other areas if you ask me!! :eek:

Momxseven, it sounds like you're describing a bit of spasticity. I've experienced spasticity in the face, and neuropathic pain in the face. The neuropathic pain feels like a sharp pain, like somebody's jabbed you with a pin. Spasticity is when it feels sore and twingy, like a muscle that's been worked too hard.

im not sure,I have the tooth pain,and buring on my face that feels like someone is sticking a hot coal to my face..

It could be sinus related as that is how my face feels when I have a bad sinus infection.

The TN that I have experienced is nothing like sinus discomfort. How can I put it . . .if I ever, ever call a doctor during non working hours (oh heck, I hate calling during business hours. LOL) something is wrong. When I had TN, I called on a Saturday. It was painful, definitely nerve as well as you could see the muscles in my face in spasms. I couldn't eat, drink, talk, or really do anything that involved the face. Very different than sinus issues that I have experienced.
