son in law leaves for Iraq next week

He is in the National Juard. This will be his second trip. He came from a very abusive home and was eventaully placed in two different foster homes then came to live here in Evansville to go to college. That's where he met my daughter. He calls both his foster Mom' 'Mom' and I am to. Their wedding was very interesting to have two sets of foster parents and us.

Anyway, back to the reason for this post. Last time he went he wanted my daughter and me to fly out to Philadelphia to be with him during the short leave they gave the unit before shipping them out. I'm glad I went for his sake but we did not find Philly to be the city of brotherly love at all. So this time they are down at Fort Stewart in Georgia. So my daughter is going by herself to Savanahh. Now that would be a city I would find very interesting. But I'm glad that my SIL didn't feel the need to have me there with him. He was comfortable enough in our families love for him, that he didn't need one of his 'Moms' there with him. I kid him that some soldiers have a lover in every port but he has a mother in every town.

Doydie
Sending to your SIL, prayers and good thoughts for a safe tour over there. What a nice story. So interesting how families are different, yet so alike. You're a lucky Mom.

Hi there Doydie,

I wrote you a long message of encouragement and posted it.....but I don't see it here under your thread!!.... so I daresay that I forget to click onto send...or something similar.....Don't ya hate that?

The gist of it was to wish your SIL well, and hope that your DD manages while he's away! From what I read, I think he must have the bestest MIL in the whole wide world .....give or take a few members on NT :)

Hugs to you and your DD.

Every time I see the F-15's above the city patrolling the skies, I just have to stop and bless them, feelings of awe overwhelm me. When I see them in the stores, I pause to let them pass first. I have so much admiration for the men and women, and their families, who serve and protect this nation. Many blessings and prayers for "Our Son".

Hi Doyd!! What a great story w/a happy ending for this amazing young man. He's blessed to have people in his life who care for him the way you all do. Please tell your DD and SIL that your friend in Illinois wants to say THANK YOU also. He is serving to keep us free and safe.

Bless him and all our military.

Here's an Angel to watch over him.

Someone I love dearly came home in 2006 after a 15 month tour. It was a tough 15 months with him away. Living in fear that you're going to get that knock on your door is never easy. But, as my friend said, he wanted the T-shirt.

Your SIL's a lucky guy to have everyone who loves him supporting him. My best to your SIL from boots on ground until he's back on U.S. soil. I'll keep him and our other servicemen and women in my prayers.

Your daughter deserves some extra love and attention while he's gone. :)

Think up some great care packages to send to him! :D
