Are You Turning Into Your "Mom" Yet??
I can't tell you how many times this past week I have thought "I'm turning into my Mother". I have caught myself thinking, acting, saying stuff that she would have done if she were here. Even my kids have noticed it! My youngest son (he's 20) said "Mom, you sound like Granny when you say that" when I told him to drive carefully because it had just rained a little and the roads would be slick.
Now, this isn't all bad because my Mom was an awesome lady and I loved her dearly. She was the classic "southern belle" and would not consider leaving the house without full makeup and nice outfit on - this includes walking to the mailbox!! Does anyone else see their parents in themselves the older you get? |
Good morning, down there in Peachland.
Am I turning into my mother? Sweetie, that ship has sailed! :D |
My mother has been gone for thirty years in April. The first of April, of all days. But that is another story.
However, I still look in the mirror and can see my mother, even though I am now older that what she was when she died. I learned from both of my parents how to behave. I think I learned more from my mom 'cause my dad was always working or busy. Like most mothers she was the primary care giver. So, when you ask, "Are you turning into your Mom yet? " You betcha, a long, long time ago. Probably around the time I got married and started having kids. I hear her in my voice and I see her in my actions. I can only hope I am growing old in the way she would have approved.:) |
Just to clarify - I'm saying this in a "good way". I admired my Mom for so many different reasons - and can only hope to be as good of a human being as she was.
It's just the older I get the more of her I see in myself. From the way I talk to the way I think to the way I react to different things. |
I assumed that's what you meant! Sometimes it literally startles me when I look in the mirror and see Mom looking back! I often wonder...if she were alive, would she see it or not? We often don't see our resemblances to others.
When my kids say "You sound like Grammy", I also take it as a compliment. I miss her every day. |
Yep, seems like the older I get the more I do. As I said in another post, I'm the female version of my father but when it comes to looks, if you put a picture of mom in her teens next to mine, we look like twins. Nice thing is, when mom was in her early 40's (I'm heading there at breakneck speed) and met dad, she was a real knockout. :D
As far as personality, I've definitely inherited her fighting spirit and survival instinct. I only hope I can be as tough as she was as I age very gracefully. :D |
I love my mom. She's the world's oldest 5 yr old, lol.
I see a lot of her in myself. Now that I'm a granny too, I also play with all the baby toys in the store and ask what toys they have at the fast food places. :D We share a love for all things in the snack food catagory, toys, flowers, little kids and puppies. We talk to ourselves and goof around. She's a very funny lady, and so are her friends. |
I am a lot like my mom. I came to that very conclusion last October when sitting on the couch I looked over and we were sitting in the exact position! I was thrown off by that and yet, felt good. lol The major difference with me and my mom is that I am optimistic and she is pessimistic. I must get that from my grandma or dad's side. :-)
