A Soldier's Prayer at Easter
Lord I am ready,
Lord I am willing, Lord I am able, Spare me from killing. Strong are my arms, For carrying alms, Let them bring peace, Refrain from all harm. Quick are my feet, Running to peace, Let them be sure, To step from mistreat. Bold is my speech, To shout out injustice, Quiet not its breath, Nor quench its fussiness. In the name of all decency, In the spirit of the everlasting, “Father, forgive them,” Christ said as his last thing. “It is finished,” he sighed, The Heavens parted, Trembling at this story, That brought forth His glory. Conquered now are sin and death, Life Everlasting now has breath. Easter comes, Lord I am willing, Father, forgive me, And spare me from killing. |
