St. Patrick's Day and ??????????

I just heard that since St. Patrick's Day is a week from today (which is Holy week) that here ( I think just here, maybe not) that it will be celebrated on this Friday, since next week is Holy week.

Has anyone else heard that?

I really am not in the mood to make corned beef and cabbage, not one of my favorite dish's anyway.

My mom loves it, so maybe I will take her out for lunch for it.

Hate to be on the roads that night, too many drinking party's and all, scares me.

Still feeling crappy, but now I think it's getting better, at least I hope it's not going into my chest.

A few of my friends started out thinking it was allergies, now they have bronchitis and had to go to the DR for antibiotics. Maybe I just need a few days in the sun (some Vit D). Although I am back on Vitamins A-Zinc.

Hi Nikki...

I don't think they will change it around here... too many rednecks want their green beer....

I read that Chicago is having their Dyeing of the River and BIG St. Patricks Day Parade on Friday... So it looks like they moved it for the Holy Week too.... St. Patrick's Day is a BIG deal in Chicago.. .they even have their own web site for it... http://www.chicagostpatsparade.com/

I hope you are feeling better soon.... That flu going around lingers forever... please be careful.

Hi, Nikko,
I found this interesting so I looked it up.

Irish eyes might be smiling a bit earlier for some St. Patrick's Day celebrants this year.

That's because a quirk in this year's calendar puts St. Patrick's Day during Holy Week, the week preceding Easter when Catholic Church rules dictate that no mass can be celebrated in honor of any saint -- Patrick included.

The fact that it has caught some people by surprise should be no surprise: It's the first time since 1940 that St. Patrick's Day, March 17, has fallen during Holy Week, the church's most somber time. And it won't happen again until 2160.

In some cities, including Philadelphia and Savannah, Ga., parades and other more secular St. Patrick's Day celebrations have been moved up.

The Irish Times in Dublin, Ireland, reported that Rome allowed the country to move the celebration of its patron saint to March 15.. . .
Quote:

. . . But she noted that no dispensation would be granted to allow local Catholics to eat meat on that Friday, March 14. Catholics are expected to abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent, the 40 days preceding Easter, meaning the traditional corned beef and cabbage fare for the day won't be allowed that Friday.
It looks like some folks will celebrate on Friday 14, some on Saturday 15 and some on the regular Monday 17. http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/silly/tilt.gif http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/silly/tilt.gif http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/silly/tilt.gif
