LTD Question: Heard of SSD Advocates?
Just wondering if anyone has been approached by a third party Social Security Disability Advocate along the way.. I got mail from GENEX to help me apply for it and they are at my service and will be paid for by my LTD, Unum.
Am I better off trying to navigate SSD myself? Also does it mean the advocates are eating into what I might get from my LTD $$s? I am leery because the WC experience has me suspicious of any benefit providers... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ok ok. I am finally understanding that LTD has nothing to do with WC. If I got this right, someone give a sister a GOLD STAR ok: LTD is a benefit that most often is paid for through some benefit plan at work.. It helps you out if you become disabled either randomly or from a work related injury. They provide income that you are not receiving normally- however they have limits, and in some cases, won't provide the same dollar amount income as one had before the disability. How'd I do? :) |
I'd be wary of any 3rd party person contacting me....
I would contact my own lawyer for assistance with SSD. Have you looked at Genex's web site.... looks to me like they may actually work for the insurance company?? BUT that's just an uneducated guess... Here is their site in case you can't find it.... http://www.genexservices.com/ss_disability/ Wishing you the best... Abbie |
I wouldn't use a representative that was being paid by your prospective LTD carrier. Your LTD company wants you to recieve ssd because that ammount(SSDI) will be deducted from the monthly amt that you will recieve from them.
I was awarded SSDI on my first attempt, and did it on my own. But, I needed a lawyer to represent me for my LTD( that was denied even after SSDI award). As soon as they saw the legal letterhead I recieved my benefits. Just take it a day at a time, it's a draining process. And, remain optimistic. However,I was not applying regarding Workmans Comp but for total disability, so the process may be different.. |
Thank you so much Bluenurse and Abasaki!! :grouphug:
I appreciate the insight and well wishes :icon_biggrin: |

sorry- i'm just up to my eyeballs in legal stuff and various forms, I guess I really would just love to jump at the chance to have professional help. I gotta remember Snow White's wicked step-mom offered help too in the form of a poisoned apple, right? |
It would have taken me way more time and money I didn't have to spend had I not let my LTD provider hire and pay for my SS advocate. Of course they want the SS offset. . . but you will end up on SS anyway. . . why not let someone else get you through the mess with their $$$ instead of yours?

I sent in the forms two days ago. I was assured by me adjustor that the fee was going to be paid for by my LTD and not out of what my is owed to me by them.
Its like the X-files. I want to believe although I could just be lazy. :o |
