Iron Overload

I had some test done because I have bruises that have been here for more then 6 mo. I also am so tired all the time. The test showed that my iron levels are all above normal. My serem count is 228, my saturation is 94, my ferrin is 1212. Can it be possible that these are wrong? I have to go to a specialist and am concerned because internet says this is very serious.

yes it is serious...

It is serious in that UNTREATED, you can eventually die from this.
Over time it causes liver failure and diabetes.

The treatment is simple...you just give blood periodically.

As long as you keep ahead of the iron accumulation, you will be okay.

There is a member on Peripheral Neuropathy whose husband has this.
You can PM her perhaps... Marlene

She has posted on avoidance of Vit C and other treatments:

Women who still have periods usually have an easier time with treatment, until after menopause.

This is a genetic condition - it runs in my family. It is very serious and if you have it, you need to get other family members checked as well.
The good thing is that it is very easy to treat. Phlebotomy will do the trick. But left out of control, it will destroy your organs. See a hemotologist.
