NeuroTalk Support Groups - my version of our midwest flooding

Luckily we didn't get it as bad as some people. We don't live along the river or along our famous Pigeon creek. But we do live in a bi-level and in a flood plane. No, we didn't know it was in a flood plane when we had the house built. But you would have thought the builder would have told us.

Anyway we had about an inch of water in our noncarpeted rooms but it was continually coming in. My husband and I were exhausted by the next day from sweeping water into a trash can, dumping it in a barrel then dumping the barrel into the street all in the cold rain. We also had every blanket and towel in the house on the floor trying to keep it sopped up. We had to put the towels in the spin cycle, then the dryer and put them back out. Next day we went out and bought a wet vac and got the rest up and got as much out of the carpets as we could. Those wet vacs have suction!!!!

today we had our first estimate for waterproofing the lower level. Bad news then bad news and then bad news. First bad news was that our home owners insurance would not take care of anyhting, from clean up to replacing the carpets. Second bad news was the price, about what we expected. Third bad news was that for a proper water proofong, they have to remove the concrete floor about 1/4 - 1/3 into the rooms along the entire length of the house. So we have to get everything out of the rooms and pull the carpeting up. Well it has to be pulled up anyway. We have a non-functioning bathroom down there. The stupid builder didn't hook it into the storm sewer properly, he says he did, and raw storm sewage came into the lower level. I was pregnant at the time and we had 13 inches into entire 1100 sq ft!!!! So the bathroom is non-functional. But we have to take the shower stall out so the concrete can be removed underneath it!!!!!! For one thing we have no idea how to remove it and then when we do, how does it come out of the bathroom door and up the steps. I know we will probably have to tear the thing up to get it out of the bathroom but the shower has never been used. It's a shame to put something to death when it is still in good shape.

Good thing is that my husband is on vacation for the next 2 weeks. Thank you God. The house is beginning to stink!
