Question / Seeking guidance

Hello,

I have for some time had varying degrees of numbness on my face. Recently this winter I noticed gum and facial pain after being out in the cold weather (I live in NY). I can feel it begin about an hour after I come in from the cold weather. It can last from 1/2 hour to an hour and then recedes. Sometimes aspirin or tylenol helps. I also get twitches on my face and around my eyes.

Now there is more to my story...last year I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. Turns out this was a side effect of a drug I was taking - Pravachol - a cholesterol lowering drug. I've stopped it and most of the burning pain and twitches in the rest of my body have receded. (FYI - most of the doctors refused to believe this was a side effect - an entirely separate story...) Now I have this facial stuff.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? These pains are not shooting and sudden like the literature describes. Is there a chance it is related to my earlier neuropathy?

I would appreciate any advice from the group. Thank you.

Hello franceunderpants,
I wonder if you have seen a neuro doc? and sure it could be related to your earlier neuropathy or many other things also. Too T.N. pain is not always shooting and sudden ... I know of people who have started with just a little "weird" feeling and then it has slowly grown into the bigger pains as decribed . some go into "remission" and have no pain and then suddenly it comes back sometimes worse then before their remission. I would denfinatly mention your thoughts, symptoms and questions to your genral practions doctor and maybe if they think it is a good idea you can be refered to a neuro. write down all the things you want to ask or say to your doctor and go see them thats is a great place to start.
I wish the best for you and hope you keep us posted on how things go for you.
Peace
BMW
