It is really bad, don't even try to look at the sites
- the flashing and bright colors bothered me and I don't even have Epilepsy.

seemed like it froze my browser too- had to close it using the task manager - ctrl/alt/del

I hope they can get things fixed soon.

They accessed the admin panel.

But if you do not upkeep your security measures, trouble will happen. These nasty scriptkitties need to be neutered.

BTW I bought a dog!

Updated Follow Up News in Regards to Epilepsy Foundation

Just to update everyone that it's
gotten worse, I've done all I could
but only managed to get a hold of
one EFA staff whom even that person
wasn't able to get a hold of anyone
due to the holidays... and even if
that person had access, they would
have to give me their ID and password
for me to take complete control to put
that site back in order which would
have taken me HOURS - only a few
minutes to shut the doors, but hours
to restore the forum.

If there was ever a time I ever felt
completely helpless - this was it. I've
been through this before, and just
came out of one not too long ago.
These folks are complete IDIOTS!

And like Jo posted - it can affect and
effect a person who doesn't even have
epilepsy. The problem is - there are
several embedded viruses in there.

For that reason - Please stay away from
EFA until the coast has been cleared.

Even I sustained seizures from it which
was unfortunate, but I will recover from
it slowly. But I am one TICKED OFF PERSON
HERE!

I did look into and will post a blog entry about it warning others to avoid these communities for now.

This is basically a denial of service attack by posting hundreds or thousands of new posts, making it impossible for others to participate in the community.

The forums will need to be shut down and the database scrubbed of all of these posts. Shouldn't take long, but it does require someone with technical expertise to do so.

I'm very sorry to see this happen... :(

PS - I also highly recommend NOT VISITING this community until they've fixed the problem. The experience was designed to hijack your browser and do all sorts of potentially-nasty things to your computer if you're not careful.

Epilepsy Foundation Update Notification

EFA Forum is NOW OFFLINE.

The www.epilepsyfoundation.org is partially
functional and safe. They are currently
working on it and will be up and running
shortly as they eliminate and shut the doors.

Chemar 03-23-2008 11:10 AM

I disabled the links in the first post for now till we know all is safe there.

so sorry to hear this happened. how very cruel of those hackers

hope they manage to get it all cleaned up quickly and that not many were harmed by it

Birdbomb 03-23-2008 02:13 PM

These idiots plan this. They do it for fun and brag about it.
In everyone's best interest, you should update and run your virius protection and then change your passwords to the forums.

Do not use the same password in every forum.
Create a password using both lower and upper case letters, symbols and numbers. Avoid using * it's considered a "wild card". Do not use words. Create a sentence and use the first or letter of each word.
example ; My dog is a purple flower = m$DI84p%F

Write down your passwords in a small notebook. Don't rely on memory

Change your password to your email account too, that is a back door in.

Better be safe than sorry.
