DH's surgery Monday & my mom (long)

Another eventful week in my household  .

This is a long and possibly disgusting to some, type of post. You have been warned :).

My husband has to have rectal surgery TOMORROW, a sphincterectomy and a fissurotomy. Go ahead and laugh:D, it's ok, he did and I did!

He has had hemorrhoids for years. They haven't usually bothered him much. For the past couple of months he has been having more than his usual pain.

He went to see the pcp about 3 weeks ago who did an exam and said that Tim "probably" has a rectal fissure along with his 'roids. The meds the pcp put him on did not help so he referred Tim to a gastro doc.

We went to that appointment on Thursday. The gastro doc could not even touch my husband's "problem area" because he was in so much pain. He was literally sweating from it:(. The doc prescribed dilaudid for the pain along with a lidocaine compound ointment. Tim said that this hurt more than when he dislocated his elbow!!

The gastro called a rectal surgeon right then and there so that the surgeon would see Tim the very next day. The surgeon didn't even have office hours on Friday but came in to see my dh.

On Friday, the surgeon examined my dh and I was there. I am not squeamish and my dh is not modest . Tim had a gigantic fissure. I could see it clearly from across the room! The doc scheduled Tim for surgery on Monday, 3/24 because the pain is just unbearable. Neither doctor could even address his hemorrhoid issue at this point.

Well, NOW Tim has a fever! I took his temp last night and it was 100.7. I am afraid that they will have to cancel his surgery due to infection:(. I will be calling the doctor this morning after dh wakes up. It's Easter. Why do these things always happen on weekends and holidays:confused:?

My mom was readmitted to the hospital on Wednesday. She was feeling horrible and has been completely out of it 90% of the time. She is having dimentia-like symptoms. The doctors have deduced that it is from a combination of all of the meds she is on. Her brain MRI came back clear :D! Thank God.

Her sodium levels were low and she was a tiny bit dehydrated. She declined her radiation treatments 2 days in a row. It is so hard being a 1000 miles away from my family at this time.:( She was released yesterday. My dad is going to force her to go to radiation Monday. This is just what we have to do since she is not herself right now. She really wanted the radiation treatments when she had her thoughts together.

I really wanted to get back to Pittsburgh soon but now with Tim having surgery soon, I will definitely being staying in Florida until we get this straightened out.

I feel like I am being ripped in two. ARGH!!!!! Just wanted to vent and update.

Thanks in advance guys:).

:hug::hug: Joelle :hug::hug:

I laughed (again).....sorry! :D:D You just tell it so funny!! I know poor Tim isn't laughing right now, though. I hope things are better and you can get his temp under control. He really needs this surgery and will feel much better after it's all said and done.

When it rains it pours (it seems) - and you're where you need to be right now. Your sister and brother can hold down the fort in PA and you know your Mom's in good hands medically speaking. Take care of your DH now so when you do go back to PA you won't be worried about him.

Call me anytime you need to "vent" - you had me in hysterics Saturday morning and I felt bad but knowing Tim has a sense of humor about it made me not feel quite so guilty!

Okay, I'm taking long, slow, deep breaths. NOW dh has broken out in a rash on his torso that he neglectd to mention to me yesterday!!! Called the on call doc who said no more Dilaudid!! Gave Tim 50 mgs of Benadryl and 1 of MY Lorcet per doctor's instructions. If he gets worse, I see a trip to the er for Easter. Side note to God: please, please cut us some slack. This is sooo not funny anymore. I love ya but this is getting ridiculous. :)

 Prayers being said for Tim (and you, too). Sounds like he had an allergic reaction - is he itchy?

You've had your share of difficulties - and it's time for a break. I'm praying for ya'll and I hope the rest of the day is uneventful. Does he still have the fever? I hope he can have the surgery tomorrow and get some relief. Call me if you need to talk - wish I wasn't so darn far away so I could help you. :(

Hoping and praying they'll both do well, J.

Sheesh, you definitely have caught more than your share of the load of late, and your poor hubby...hope that fever isn't due to an infection in the fissure itself, but maybe just to a passing "bug."

Thoughts and prayers will be with you and all of your family.

Tim's temp is down. I'm pretty sure that the acetaminophen in the Lorcet is helping. The doc said the fever is probably part of the allergic reaction. His rash is improving from the Benadryl :). The surgery is still on for tomorrow as long as things don't worsen. Thanks for listening everyone :).

Oh Joelle, this is not good. I can understand your frustration. I myself have asked God to please not add anymore until I digest what the current issues are. I am praying for you and hoping things get better. DH must be a wreck huh? I hope he feels better and no trip to the ER today. I am praying for your mom too.

I am home all day and not doing anything except cooking for the boys. Call me if you need to vent, scream, whatever. I'll even put you on the speaker so all the family can vent and scream with you OK? :D:D:D:D

Gosh Joellee~ That's alot to deal with! I know that your DH will feel so much better having the surgery. Pain in "that" area is awful. My DS had a pilonidal cyst surgically removed last yr *in and around the same area* and he was so relieved when it was fixed.

I know your DH will do fine. I am so sorry that your dear Mother continues to have problems. She is probably doing the best that she can right now. It's hard work coming back from the surgery that she had. Please know that I am here if you need to vent. I know how hard it is for you being so far away.
But, you have to cut yourself some slack. You are also doing the best that you can. Sending up prayers for your DH and Mom.

take care of yourself, too!
