Is Anyone on the Pain Med. Fentenayl?

I am having bad problems with pain. Have ms, fibro, spinal sten.
osteo arth. and 2 hern. disks.

Have been taking Tramadol but, the pain is getting worse where
I am not sleeping well at nights. During the day I manage better. Nights
are the worse.

My visit to the dr. wednesday he prescribed Fentenayl 25mg. When I
put the patch on within 20 min. my head felt like it was going to blow.
Started having palpitations which have been under control with heart med.

After 6 hrs. I took the patch off. About 30 min. or more the palp. eased
off. My head was feeling better. Could not get in touch with the dr. Fri.
so I am waiting until Mon. to call.

Was just wondering if anyone has had a problem with this med. Just
maybe it was a coincidence that this happened to me. Also I have
anxiety problems.

One big mess.

Jappy :)

Hey, Jappy, I don't take it but I did a search here for other discussions about it. It might help if you pick through some of these:):

I am highly allergic to Fentanyl!!!!

I thought my heart was going to pound out of my chest, felt like my head was going to explode, and my airway was closing up due to swelling!!!

Please be careful...

Joyce I'm sorry to hear that you feel so bad, but it sounds like you could be having a reaction to the medication. Have a look at the following list of side effects and you'll see that headache and cardiac arrythmias are listed.

The headache is one I tend to get with most narcotics, and you have to remember that Fentanyl is a very potent one. My head actually felt like it was burst right open when I was given Pethidine, and that certainly was no fun!

Thanks for the site. It was very informative. What happened to
me does sound like a reaction to the med. I am not taking it.

I will be calling the dr. tomorrow and hope there is something
else, because I do not want that med.

Aww Jappy
You certainly reacted strongly to the med. I agree with the others.

I hope the doctor can find you a suitable med, because pain just sucks!

Hey Joyce, hope you are feeling better.

But your reaction is very serious. Dont you have a MD who is on-call?

Listen to your body, which I know you are, and let it help you make the decision. Dont forget that you are on other meds as well, yes?

Some MD's do not take in to account the interaction properties and stress on your liver and other organs.Well your heart clearly was screaming to stop!!

Whew!!!! Glad you are recovering and hope you find ways to get better pain relief.

Keep us informed, Jan

On the chronic pain or spinal forums, you should find alternative meds you could ask to try when you contact your doc.

I have tried so many without luck I won't bore you with them. Tramadol was one of those- helped some, but not enough. And the opain got too much for the tram to handle it.

I am currnetly using the Flector patch. It's non-narcotic. and if your doc thinks a patch would be better suited for you, this may be an option.

I just thought I'd throw it out there for you, since I have similar problems - DDD, stenosis, OA and such.

This patch is about 4" x 5" and it's a stretchy fabric, so it moves with you. Doesn't leave a sticky bandaid type residue, and you can, if you want, move it a couple times without it losing it's stickiness.

I'm getting more done, sleeping better, and in a better mood. My pain is down to half what it was before with no other meds. I have muscle relaxers, but I seldom need them.

I have had no side effects.

I don't know! Glad you are calling the doc! Let us know!
