Going to the doctor on Wednesday
Hi all
I just want to say thank you so much for all your posts concerning the burning skin. I am going to see my internist on Wednesday and will talk to him regarding the B12. I've stopped the Lyrica and the burning is much better. I started with Elavil 25mg at night and my skin is much better. Burning basically gone. I will still however ask the doctor for a referral to a neurologist at an academic hospital that specialises in neuropathy. My current doc is more fixed on the idea that this is all depression/anxiety related, but he really is a great doctor and I don't want to lose him. I will speak to him and let you all know what he says. Eugene |
Eugene, unfortunately there are a lot of medical people out there that still believe that you to have full blown diabetes for many years before any nerve damage will happen, this is NOT true for every individual, we are not all the same as there are others that can have diabetes for years and show no signs of nerve damage.
Doctors that are up to date with current findings will know that prediabetes can damage the nerves in some people, your Glucose tolerance tests shows insulin resistance but your lucky in a way, that you can reverse that prediabetic state and save yourself from becoming a full blown diabetic by simple life style changes now. http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retri...22510X05004223 The cause of my burning feet was prediabetes and i was very low on B12, i also found some relief from Endep [Elavil] same drug, but i took 150 mg at night & 25 mg in the morning. good luck with it anyway, Brian :) |
Eugene? It is far easier to
lead a doctor to the facts than it is to make him/her see the facts.
What might help is to read what Brian's put forth, which is valid info for YOU and to put it all into a context that the doc can well, 'digest'? Just keep asking questions about possible diabetes [LOTS OF THEM!] based on what you can learn here and other places and ASK ASK ASK so it gets through. Do it in the calm, persistent and intelligent way many of us have 'learned' to ask about key issues from our docs. Telling, demanding doesn't work! It only took me three years plus of asking about my thyroid being an issue to my neuropathy when other medical issues from other directions proved that I DID have a thyroid problem. I'd been assured that thyroid had nothing to do with the neuropathy - maybe not? BUT.........who knows? Hindsight IS not wonderful at times. That all said it is important to address that old depression/anxiety issue from the get go! My reply has been always: Well, wouldn't you be IF you had skin that's burning 24/7? That makes you feel as if you've been totally immersed in a vat of hot oil or the like? and THEN you tell me I'm depressed? The fact is that the BURNING came first! Now what can you/we do about it? You will still be depressed and anxious, because of the burning, but at least you are being very clear about the pain situation. Being CLEAR about the pain is the most important aspect describing how and where we are about our pain. Hope this helps, and more importantly I hope you GET help! - j |
