Airplane questions

Why are carseats mandatory for cars but not planes?????

Why isnt it mandatory for you to purchase a seat for a child? Sitting on a persons lap??? How is that safe? Besides if something was to happen; there wouldnt be an extra Oxygen mask...not to mention how would you be able to hold on to a child????

This intrigues me

Seems to me that the chances of your plane crashing into a car are pretty slim.

I think that only applies to infants and a mother's clutch is more powerful than any seatbelt I've ever seen.

If anything happens in a plane, it usually doesn't matter if there's an oxygen mask.

First off, you can take a carseat on the plane for your child. There are NO rules against it. If you have a seat for that child, you can use the car seat. See my other post.

Secondly, there are extra oxygen masks in every row of seats on the airplane! They are very easy to put on...honestly. And you would have help. There is always someone there to help you.

Having a child on your lap is not a hinderance. During Flight Attendant training, we went through every scenario and having a child on your lap was not a hindrance and the child was safer in your lap than sitting in a seat next to you...especially one that small.

There are fewer plane crashes than you realize. The media just sensationalizes them. You are safer on a plane than you are crossing the street!

Have a safe and enjoyable flight!

A carseat is the safest. If you were to crash or go through turbulence, there's a good chance that you can't hold onto your kid or you will smush them into the seat in front of you. (just like in a car).

On my adoption group there are some car seat on plane fanatics. They've posted videos of what can happen on a plane. I'm not a fanatic so I haven't seen the videos for myself but apparently it scared the pants off these people enough that they use them. Personally, having a squirming 2 year old on my lap for 2.5 hours sounds hideous!

The only problem with that is, if she didn't purchase a seat for the child, the child is required to stay on the parent's lap unless there is an empty seat available.

The rabid mom's I've talked to ALWAYS buy the seat :D I just realized that one of them actually is one of the technicians that does the tests and reviews the data! (that would explain the rabidity!)
