World class zoo with a fantastic polar bear exhibit, wild animal park, Balboa Park, Oceanside boardwalk, SeaWorld, A wavepool/waterpark, Carlsbad village, Glen Ivy hot springs in Corona (if you can get a sitter), Old Town San Diego, Take the Coaster train from Oceanside down into Old Town, it's fun and the kids can wiggle all they want, Solana Beach is fantastic for tide pools, Cabrillo National Monument has another fantastic seashore with outstanding tide pools, the Escondido mall has an ice rink inside. Ask around when you get there, I'm only touching the tip of the iceberg. I don't know if it's still there, but there was an African art dealer who carried enormous stone carvings that are absolutely phenomenal and kids are allowed to touch anything (four adults couldn't budge one of those things).

And Legoland near Carlsbad. And be sure to walk downtown La Jolla, lots of restaurants and cafes.

So many, many wonderful restaurants downtown. Don't be afraid to go into the city - it's really easy to navigate. There are some neat flamenco places there - you could get dinner (tapas) and then see a show afterwards. I think Cafe Sevilla was one of them. The kids might enjoy that.

For kid-fun things - legoland, the zoo, and the wild animal park are tops! Never been to SeaWorld, but I bet it's great too. Depending on when you go, the San Diego fair will be running at the Del Mar track at the end of May beginning of June - super fun.

There's a pier at Ocean Beach - if the kids like fishing.

La Jolla has a really pretty paved walk to do along the ocean. Good place for kids to run and get their energy out while adults mosey :) Mission Bay Park is also a fabulous place to take the kids. Lots of green space - everyone picnics there. Rent some bikes and bike all on their paved trails. Some really nice playgrounds there too.

I love SD. Only lived there for 1.5 yrs but had a great time!

No trips to SD in my future. I have to run around the east coast saying goodbye to all my friends for the next 3 years!

There a few Cajun places in GasLamp Quarter, and they are all very good.

Also, believe it or not, there is a liquor store/deli immediately east of Qualcom Stadium that has the best sandwiches around. It is the quiet hole in the wall that feeds most of the San Diego Chargers. The food is great and very inexpensive. The location is shown is the attached image.
