Songs that Inspire and Encourage us........

Music has always been a major source of inspiration and encouragement in my life so here is a thread where we can all share songs that have made an impact on us spiritually..........

I heard "Will Not be Moved" by Natalie Grant on the radio today and was left with a WOW!!!! :p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WpFid43xW8

"Anyway" by Martina McBride has also been a real encouragement to me lately when that 'what's the use?!' feeling gets me:o

What a great idea, Cheri!!!!

This one absolutely knocked me on my butt the first time I heard it, and it still keeps me on my knees. You can hear it free at: http://play.rhapsody.com/album/myutm...layBounce=true

Thanks Chemar! Thanks Cin! I really enjoyed and needed those. I'm in such a good mood today. They told us in church that according to the Almanac, that today is HAPPY DAY!

:) :) :) :)

FaithS 04-20-2008 04:40 PM

Chemar -- I loved Anyway by Martina McBride. What a great idea for a thread.

One of my current favorites is God With Us, by Mercy Me.

Corkybird 04-20-2008 05:23 PM

Does it have to be a song that's by a current day artist? If not then I'll choose 2 of my all time favorites.........

Take My Hand Precious Lord

It is No Secret what God can Do

God Bless,

Marilyn

The chimes of time ring out the news
Another day is through
Someone slipped and fell
Was that someone you?

You may have longed for added strength
Your courage to renew
Do not be disheartened
For I have news for you

It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He'll do for you
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do

There is no night for in His light
You never walk alone
Always feel at home
Wherever you may go

There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side
Take Him at His promise
Don't run away and hide

It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He'll do for you
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do

TRIVIA:
The title for this song is thought to have been taken from a chance
remark that actor John Wayne once made to Staurt Hamblen. The writer
then proceeded to complete the song in under ten minutes.

While I have a large collection of all genres of music, the song that both gives me goose-bumps and lifts me up everytime I hear it is:

Wonderful, Merciful Saviour--Selah

The arrangement is so powerful, I can just feel it lifting my spirits. Great thread, Thanks!!

I am love love loving this thread! Okay, true confessions: After seeing him live for the first time at the 1994 Gaither Praise Gathering in Indy, my friend, Sharon and I have been major Michael English groupies.:o We have even made long roadtrips to see him, we've met him a bunch of times and well, we happen to think he is one of God's finest works of art.;)

"In Christ Alone" is his signature song and I absolutely love it! This isn't the best recording, but, it will give a sense of his energy for God.

Oh, Alffe! They put on the Praise Gathering every Oct. right in Indy! It's HUGE and they bring in just a ton of great musicians & speakers. The year we went, Amy Grant "popped in" and did a short concert, Sandi Patti came by for a bit, Adolph Coors IV gave a heart-wrenching talk about the kidnap and murder of his dad, Steven Curtis Chapman was a new guy, and on and on. The tickets are hard to come by because once you "own" a seat, you never give it up. Some friends couldn't stay the whole time (4-day weekend) and generously gave my friend and me their tickets. It's an amazing time and talk about swinging on a cloud! Definitely try to go!

Mark Lowry is such a cut-up, we couldn't believe it when he and Michael English did a duet of his Mary Did You Know, we had no idea that he could sing, we thought he was just the comic relief!

Alffe 04-21-2008 12:50 PM

and to think that I never knew this!! Thank you Cindy and Abbie thank you for pming me the schedule. Hoping for the Dec concert!

Blessings2You 04-21-2008 04:27 PM

I could post here every day until the end of time, I think, and never name the same song twice...whether I'm deep in the pit and God uses music to lift me out, or I'm on top of the mountain and just want to sing praises.

There is a room in our house where my music lives. My piano is there, Mom's old pump organ, the keyboard, the CD player, the record player (shut up, whippersnappers), all my Gaither videos, a guitar, a handful of harmonicas, even a couple of clarinets.

Sometimes I'll say to Bob, "I need music now", and I'll disappear for a while. Sometimes I scream along, and sometimes I just sit and let the music and the lyrics flow over me.

Today my favorite is "I Bowed on My Knees and Cried 'Holy'", the Michael English version. Tomorrow I'll have a new favorite. I couldn't pick just one to save my life.

AfterMyNap 04-21-2008 05:28 PM

Better get started, B2, eternity will be here sooner than you think and these here is mustard seeds.

And you get double bonus points from me for naming the King of Babes!

I agree that music can seem magical. At times is seems to reach into your soul, and express things that words alone could never express. I recently bought the CD "I Can Only Imagine," and I love it. But right now the sound card in my computer is messed up, and I need to get it fixed. There aren't very many radio stations in my area which fit my musical tastes.

Idealist --

Often, you can listen to radio stations online. Have you tried klove.com? They play Contemporary Christian music. You can minimize it, and play it in the background, while you do other things on computer.

Abbie 04-22-2008 12:28 PM

ya... I feel lke her...
this video reminds me of my life...

please know that i'm ok... this video and song was like my life lept out of my head/heart/soul... right onto the screen.

I have found myself standing outside of church afraid to go in....being looked at by others like I am less than...

I shared the video/song with because I know i'm not the only one... and I believe we all need a reminder that there are others like me that feel this way... I know I can try harder to love and accept people for who they are.

**I'm sorry that I seem to have diverted this thread to a different direction... I'll try to get it back on track...

Abby, no need to apologize, if we weren't moved by what God is doing with this thread, no one would be coming back to it over and over and over again. He reached you with that song and me too, I'm going to pray for you to find a church where you'll feel at home and One with The One and the whole Family! ><>

I'll bet you I won't be the only one praying, too!:grouphug:
