Effects of a Seizure...
Hello Folks,
For the people who have seizures here, I have a question ... How common is it to tear your rotator cuff off of your shoulder(s) after having a seizure? :( Thank you. -Roy |
Hi Roy,
I've had seizures for 36 yrs. and the worst thing that I've ever done is burn myself after spilling hot coffee during a sz. In regards to tearing a rotator cuff I would say that it is very rare it all depends on the type of seizure a person is having. If the person is having grand mal, myoclonic, or status seizures I would say that person has a better chance of getting hurt, it all depends on how well the persons seizures are controled. Years ago my cousin was walking down the stairs and went into a grand mal seizure only to end up falling and hitting his head in the right area and he passed away. This was back in the late 1940's or early 1950's before they were doing surgery. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |
Hello Porkette,
I've never had seizures before in my life until I started taking anti-seizure medication for nerve pain deep inside my nose where I had surgery done. I can't sleep because of the shock-snaps I get in my head when I try to sleep. Well, actually, the first seizure I ever got was in early 2007, when my neurologist totally off-prescribed an anti-psychotic medication called seroquel for sleep. I drank a glass of red wine with it that night and went to sleep. Everything was ok. Then, the next night I came home and felt a little tired so I layed down to rest (took no meds) and fell asleep and then had a horrible seizure. I had been taking neurontin for nerve pain about a year or so before that, but never had any seizures. I immediately stopped taking the seroquel, but I have had about 5 or 6 seizures over the past year now when using neurontin and lyrica. The worst was on Lyrica. I took some Lyrica (125 mg.) on the night of March 24th, 2008 and went to sleep. Then, the next night I came home and felt a little tired so I layed down to pray to God for help and to calm my mind and body down and to make me a better person (took no meds) but fell asleep instead and had a horrible seizure and tore my rotator cuff off of my right shoulder and damaged my left shoulder. Last night I was a little tired and when I was sitting in my recliner chair and was praying to God I felt an aura come on, but I was able to fight it off and kept praying, this time to Jesus Christ, instead of God, and I did'nt have a seizure. Coincidince? ... I don't know. I'm really in trouble now facing surgery and would be out of work for who knows how long without any disability insurance. I should have died when I had that seizure that tore apart my shoulder, but I didn't. :( - Joe (real name) |
Hi Joe,
I'm so sorry to hear that you have been having seizures but I must tell you that it has been proven that the drug neurontin can cause some people to have seizures and I know this because my neuro put me on the drug for pain and I ended up having status seizures. I then saw on NBC Dateline where the drug co. that makes neurontin was using the drug for off market matters one of them being pain and now they have over $240 million in lawsuits. Once I got off the neurontin the status seizures stopped but it caused more brain damage which upset me especially after having 2 brain surgeries to help reduce my seizures. I'm very glad to hear that prayer helped stop your aura seizure. Prayer is one of the best things as far as I'm personally concerned. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You! Sue |
