Can't find Pomegranates
The other day I took my walk to buy my produce. Got everything I needed, all fresh veggies and berries, and I asked the store manager, "do you sell Pomegranates"?. They didn't even know what I was talking about.
I went to 7 stores (It's a big avenue with lots of fruit and vegetable stores). I figured SOMEONE WOULD BE SELLING POMEGRANATES. Well, to my surprise, NOT ONE STORE SOLD THIS FRUIT. I was on line and a lovely Indian woman strolled over to me and said "you want pomagranates, right? and I said "oh yes, where are they" and she laughed and said "they are not in season". And I said 'what season are they in" and she laughed and said "Winter". Well, I guess that does it for Pomegranates. I am debating whether or not to buy one of those POMI drinks or straight Pomegranate juice (one without any added sugar). I haven't done so yet. The juicing is doing me just fine. I don't put in too much fruit. Just some berries along with my veggies. Drink this every morning. Doesn't impact my sugar. I'm feeling good. And my body thinks good things are going in so in that respect, to me, it's a good thing. And together with taking the Methyl B-12, no burning. I have no idea if this is all in my head or my nerves are healing, but what the heck, there's no down-side to fresh juicing every morning. I don't do orange or high sugar fruits. I read about the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory nature of using Pomegranate juice and I read on one juicing website that juicing a fresh Pomegranate, well, it's the best thing you can do for your body. So if I can't get my hands on fresh pomegranates, would adding a teaspoon or tablespoon to my freshly juiced veggie mixture, well, would it do any good?? If it has no major beneficial properties, I'm not going to do it. Because the whole purpose of juicing is tot get the live enzymes. So I'd actually be using "not fresh" pomegranate juice and adding it to my "fresh" juice. Not too sure what to do. Anyone have a clue. I don't know if any of you juice, but it really tastes good and it has all these anti-inflammatory goodness in it. I'm changing it up each day, adding and deleting various items. It's all good. Only do it in the morning, then I immediately clean my juicer. Tomorrow, I'm juicing up a batch and surprising Alan's physical therapist because he can't believe that anything with zucchini and asparagus could even taste good. Is he in for a surprise!!!! Take care all!!! From the juicing fool.....Melody |
they are out of season but if u can afford it they sell it in juice form around here mel the purer it is the more it cost, but it is really good tasting
keep your eyes open every once in a while we get them from the other end of the world although their harvest is about over too, and again you will pay more than you do in the autumn here, yes if you can not tell i love those things:eek: i make zucchini bread all the time it last all of 3 seconds in this house |
I know I can't buy pomegranates, and I most definitely can get the juice. It's all over the place, in various forms.
I would only get the one that has no added sugar. But, my question is, ...because I juice fresh in the morning, would adding a tablespoon of anything from a bottle or plastic container (because it's heated, I think...), well, that would interrupt the live enzyme thing going on that I'm getting from fresh juicing. If someone comes here and says 'okay Melody, buy the purest form of pomegranate juice you can find, and add it to your fresh juicing stuff in the morning, then that's what I would do. But if someone says: "nah, don't bother, if you are going fresh, go fresh all the way",, then I'll wait until the season comes and then I'll buy fresh pomegranates. I get plenty of anti-oxidants in my juicing and most definitely in my diet. And the Methyl B-12 has literally saved my life. I have more energy than ever. If it wasn't for my osteoartritis (that bends me like a pretzel from time to time, when the weather is nuts), I'd be a different person. But I'll take what I can get. I also have scoliosis. Can't do anything about that. I leave it alone, and it leaves me alone. Once in a while it bothers me, but hey, as long as my feet don't burn, I don't give a fig. Just now I was explaining to Alan that I have AN IDEA of what he's been going through with his Neuropathy all these years. He said to me and I quote: "Melody, you know when you order a bagel and cream cheese and they put a shmear on the bagel??" and I said "yeah, a shmear, is a little bit". He then said "then you have a bit of an idea what neuropathy is. You had a shmear, I had the whole kit and kaboodle. I was on fentanyl for over 2 years. 150 patch. Do you know what kind of pain I was in when I had to go on that patch"?? I looked at him. I understood. That's why I keep my sugar levels as good as I can get them, and I don't cheat. I will do anything humanly possible to keep my neuropathy at bay. And the Methyl B (in my case), was the boost that got me started. I only had the neuropathy for a short while before I went on the Methyl B. Alan tried it but it didn't do a thing for him. But he's had it for over 18 years. Too much damage I gather. But he's better than he was 7 years ago. Oh my god, how much better. When we juice, his skin is getting clearer, his psoriasis doesn't flare up so much. Hey, whatever works, that's what I say. So someone let me know if adding a bit of the pomegranate juice in the a.m. will make any difference whatsoever? Or should I just wait until I can get my hands on fresh pomegranates? I also read that grapes are packed with anti-oxidants, but grapes are very high in sugar so I don't use them. Thanks much. Melody |
