Mestinon: has anyone had side effects that went away with time?

Hey, I just got put on Mestinon and I have some side effects like my tummy is upset and swallowing seems more difficult. Has anyone experienced this and does it go away with time? I am so grateful for this forum! I'm really having a hard time dealing with all of this. I was told 12-15 years ago that i had chronic fatigue. Now it seems they were mistaken. At least I know more now. Thanks to all of you for your kindness!

Hi, There are a couple of things you need to know about Mestinon. One is Too Much Mestinon can cause your symptoms to worsen. I had terrible diarrhea with Mestinon, and had to be put on Welchol to help control it. And it had made a tremendous difference. Mestinon has lactose in it for a filler, and I'm lactose intolerant, so I was really having a problem:eek: ( I'm mean if I could have had a toilet strapped to my behinder, I would have..lol)

Make sure you tell your neuro that you're having problems with the mestinon causing you some problems. Also some people have their tummy problems go away...I did no..

Also, it's important to remember the reason why we have some days that are more severe than others is it all depends on the muscles we may or may not be using at the time.

For example, I have a saying.."NO Good day goes unpunished" If I'm feeling good today, I tend to do as much as I can, and then tomorrow and the next, I'm having extreme exhuastion.

Lizzie- thanks, I will call the doc. The diarrhea is as exhausting as the disease! Big drag. My appetite has also plummeted

In the beginning the Mestinon really upset my stomach, but over time it stopped. Sometime I still have to adjust my dose on a daily basis due to diarrhea, but generally only if I'm taking 90mg every 3-4 hours...I can normally get by with 60 every 3-4 hours with a 90mg every once in a while
