Awww...Eddie Arnold R.I.P.

I hadn't heard this until now. He died May 8th.

Hearing that brought me back to the shag carpeted "good' living room and the 6 ft. console stereo with the huge built in BOOMING speakers...and my mother singing along with Eddie Arnold to "Make the world go away" at the top of her lungs with the stereo cranked...

He did his later stuff (post 1955) with string accompaniment and the Jordanaires backing vocals. Colonel Tom Parker was his manager until he left to manage Elvis full time. Elvis even covered some of his songs.

Regardless of how "uncool" it is, I liked his music and the way the sound used to sort of swirl around in his recordings. I still crank him up when he comes on the radio.

Who says liking Eddy Arnold uncool? My favorite car song is "Cattle Call". I crank it up, scream along, and enjoy the way it feels filling up my car. I was sad when I heard of his passing. If that's uncool, I don't want to be cool. God rest his soul.

OMG... I can still hear me Dear old Grandmother saying "Hush now, Eddie Arnold is singing 'Make the world go away'. " I was in my 20s, so that song is old..

Another great one leaves us. When dh and I went to the Country
West. Club and danced to E A music dh would sing to me. Dh had a good
voice.
Sally thanks for the link. Put it on and when he started singing, I started dancing. SAGE sat there and looked at me like saying THIS LADY IS CRAZY.
Than God for memories

Jappy :)

Hey, I grew up listening to Eddy Arnold, a true country gentleman.

Cattle Call, Make the World Go Away.

I'm bringing you a big bouquet of roses, One for every time, you broke my heart. .......................

He was a legend. Didn't know he had passed away either.

Bet he's up there singing for my folk's. I can only hope so.
