Alan hits target for China treatment
http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/Up...an%20Scott.jpg Alan Scott has raised around £17,000 with the help of family and friends to pay for some highly experimental therapy for Motor Neurone Disease. A COURAGEOUS Mansfield man who suffers from Motor Neurone Disease has raised enough money to jet out to China for pioneering treatment. Forty-year-old Alan Scott, of Spindle Court, has raised around £17,000 with the help of family and friends to pay for the highly experimental therapy, which is only available abroad. The former shop manager's life was turned upside-down last year when he discovered he had the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis strain of the disease –– which is fatal within a few years -- and doctors have been unable to tell Alan how long he may have left. But Alan's caring friends and former colleagues - including previous employer Burton - clubbed together and took on various challenges during the past couple of months to raise the funds for treatment. "We have raised approximately £17,000 to date through everyone's efforts, which means I was in a position to book my first batch of treatment in China - which is going to be on 21st June," he said. "The local Burton stores also got involved in the fundraising events and together they raised a massive total of £13,000 through events like sponsored walks, bike rides, a football tournament, car boot sales, raffles and an auction. "I just want to thank all my friends and family and everyone who has helped with sponsorship and co-ordinated events so far to help me get the treatment." http://www.chad.co.uk:80/news/Alan-h...ina.4074706.jp |
