Freecycle, do any of you freecycle?

www.freecycle.org/

If you've not heard of it check it out, there is probably a group there in your area, I have to say I just got a few things over the weekend from two wonderful families I just had to post about it here and see if you've ever looked into it. It's a great thing IMO.

We replied to a message about a free computer tower and ended up with a great 60 gb hard drive, 128MB ram chip and a CD RW drive. The CPU was a 900 MHZ and not as good as the one we've got for our son but the pieces we assembled for him fixed the problems his system was having. :D

Then we replied to another message posted offering things from a failed garage sale, and I walked away with two awesome magnavox speakers with subwoofers, a Plug and Play DDR (dance dance revolution game with RCA jacks to plug into the TV directly) and six kid's movies, Charlie brown, two Thomas the Train video, The Very Hungry Catepillar, Scooby Doo and one on golf for kids. And the final thing she gave us was a cool Spiderman two poster.

I need to list some things, because when you list offers, (At least our local group allows this) you can post a wanted post where you post about something you need. Some people ask for beds, I've seen people ask for washers and dryers. It's really a cool way to share with people in your community and to stop overfilling the landfills with items that still have use left in them. :)

Or have you just heard of this and are too anxious to reply to anyone's messages on the Yahoo Group or even to imagine going to pick up items? I was anxious at first but I got over it for Jackie's sake. The first item I got was a Dr. Seuss backpack. :) And I really wanted the DDR for him, and the speakers for our home theater. They work great too, we can actually HEAR the things on TV now. :D

I'm so glad I posted it mrsd! I had hoped it would make for an interesting thread. I think it's a great idea and it's been fun for us so far. If Jackie's trike is rejected as in Med-Waiver won't cover it, then I want to post a Wanted for an adult trike bike. :)

Pam,
I have a friend who uses this.
She moved recently and had no place for a bulky desk in her new place so she went to Freecycle.

All she had to do was put the desk out on the road the day the person said that they would come by.

When she came home from work, the desk was gone. :)

She liked how easy it was.

I love Freecycle! It's a great way to get rid of stuff you no longer need and someone wants! I just put in a request for a dresser. I have given away sliding closet doors, computer desk and moving boxes so far.

That's great Mari! I Like how easy it is too, you just send off email, with or without your phone number to set up pick up arrangements, I think they like it if you put your number in, I think that was part of why we were picked for the two I responded to this weekend. :) It's definitely the easiest way to get rid of things you don't need anymore that you would like to see someone else get some use from. :D

Awesome Sandy! I think that's really cool you gave away all that stuff, I have to go digging through the closet and see if I find some things I think we did not throw away and list them so I can post a wanted, I really think we're in for a long wait on the trike if we get it at all, I just found out the district is NOT actively processing anything that isn't on an emergency basis. So big downer there.

Anyway I have call Mom and check in with her, see how she's doing and tell her the bad news on the trike I just found out. As she says, "Poo!" LOL! ;)

Freecycle

In our freecycle, and I belong to about 5 groups, we are asked to NOT put phone numbers or addresses in the ad, but to make contact with the person that answers the ad and give them your info. It's for your safety.

Yes, Freecycle is a wonderful thing and I started out in it by helping a friend move, when she could no longer fit anything in her truck, she asked me to stay and give the rest away....I freecycled it and things went to many nice families. I am working on down-sizing out home and getting rid of what won't sell, then I will have a sale for the power tools, welder and adult trike, these I can't afford to give away. I wish I could, but he bought the trike for $900 and rode it less than a mile....I am NOT giving it away!

Thanks for posting CrystalSword! I agree it's for our safety that we not put phone numbers and addresses in posted ads. I think it's smart to NOT include it, but if you're replying to an ad I think people would rather just HAVE Your phone number then and just call you to let you know you're their first choice, then email back and ask for it you know? :D

For selling items I think craigslist is great! I would give it a shot for the items you want to sell if you want to. The link is:

i love both.

www.backpage.com is like craiglist too.

both are also a good place to look for employment ads. many of the smaller businesses, like ours, can't afford the $350 for a 2-3 day ad in a regular paper or the even higher prices on the job sites.
