Article on Vit D

CNN health had an article on Vit D and the newest findings. Supports much of what we already knew.

Vitamin D is becoming an increasingly important player in a healthful diet. Over the past 10 years, a spate of research has linked it to an impressive and diverse array of potential benefits. In addition to vitamin D's well-known function of increasing calcium absorption and thereby helping encourage healthy bone growth, it has shown promise in helping to prevent certain cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoarthritis.

Yes! If I can anyone can. I was a hard-core smoker. 4 packs a day. The Chantix is a miracle for me. You have nothing to lose and much to gain by giving it a try.

Make sure you eat and *then* take the pill. Otherwise you're going to have nausea. For me the nausea lasted for two days at the beginning. But I've not had anymore since then and that was with an increase in dose at week two also.

It amazes me how many people don't take meds as they're instructed to. And then they wonder why the med isn't working like it should be or they're having a lot of side effects.

Five days, 16 hours, 49 minutes and 57 seconds. 399 cigarettes not smoked, saving $45.69. Life saved: 1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes.

Me 2 packs a day (all day @work & @home). My wife 3/4 to 1 pack a day (mostly @ home).
I've mentioned quitting together (several times), but she's ignored the suggestions.
Don't know if I could do it alone while she's still smoking in the same house.
Is this Chantix by Rx or is it OTC? How expensive is it?
Do you get oral satisfaction cravings (like eating)?
I think ....... I wanna quit, ........ soon.

With the Chantix it doesn't bother me to be around another smoker. The nicotine part of it is blocked by Chantix. Today is day 6 and I have had no physical craving at all today. Yes, there's the hand oral thing to contend with. And personally I'd rather gain a bit of weight I know I can lose than gain me some COPD that will never go away. Chantix is around 260.00 (prescription only) I think for 30 days of treatment. Most insurances now cover it. It's expensive but worth every penny of it. The doctor that orignally prescribed it for me was a bit duh...she said think of how much you spend every month on cigarettes. Save your money and buy the Chantix. Ummm...If I saved the money from not smoking than I wouldn't need the Chantix would I? Also, the company that makes Chantix also offers various assistance programs.

Thanks, dahlek. I really appreciate that. I couldn't have quit without the Chantix. It saved my life. :)

FAA banned chantix:

http://cbs11tv.com/health/faa.chantix.ban.2.729706.html

The FAA says it is concerned about the potential for lapses in alertness and motor control that could lead to serious injury.

The FAA tells CBS 11 News the ban is effective immediately. The FAA is telling 150 pilots and 30 air traffic controllers to stop working for the next 72 hours if they are taking the drug. The agency calls it "a potential aviation safety issue."

In NYC, some packs of cigs cost around $10.00 Some people smoke 4 packs a day. (my mom did),

That's 40 bucks a day. Do you know how much produce I could buy for 40 bucks a day.

A lot of carrots, spinach, broccoli, etc.

I'd be juicing day and night!!! lol

No, seriously, that's a lot of savings, if you stop smoking.

I can't do the math that quickly, by 40 bucks times 7 days a week.

Well, IT'S A LOT OF MONEY!!

You can take the money, go see a show, go on vacation, WHATEVER!!!!

And the lungs will thank you for that!!

so congrats to ANYBODY who quits!!!!
