When does "remission" occur?

I was asked a question yesterday that I'm not totally sure of.
A friend, inquiring as to how my son's doing with his cancer survivorship,
asked me "is he in remission?".
I'm not totally sure how to answer the question, so I got into conversation with another cancer survivor later tonite and she just kinda chuckled and said that it's sorta a "slang word" as a person is never considered to be "100% guaranteed of never getting the cancer again".
Some say it's whenever the bloodwork becomes into the normal range, others say it's after one yr, others say it's after 5 yrs.
Anyways, my son's doing fine...other than an allergy problem right now cause of all this spring pollen.

Hi Marilyn~ Late at seeing this, but I understand what your'e saying. People think b/c my DS has had a kidney transplant, that he is cured. A transplant is a stall, so to speak, and one that we pray will last a long lifetime.

I think we, as parents of children w/illnesses, just have to continue to take one day at a time. I think that's all any ONE of us can do in our daily lives.

I'm glad Keith is doing well, (except for the allergies). He is an inspiration.
