Nerve pain is my big problem. I take flax seed oil gel caps. It is supposed to help with repairing nerve injury and promoting general nerve health. I'm not sure that it is doing much for my nerves, but can't hurt, right ?

A good side effect for me is (because it is an oil ?) it seems to help with the constipation from the narcotics.

Way back in 99 when i just had RSI , I read about MSM and really did notice a good difference when taking it.
Plus I take a good multivitamin/mineral, Vit C, a Cal/mag blend, and some other stuff like grape seed extract, omega 3 complex, magneisium

According to my Nutrition professor, it's really hard to tell what's good and what's not. Reason being is that the herbal supplements are unregulated (at least in America) and manufacturers can make false claims about their products. It's a shame too. We are often literally pissing our money away :p (sorry). Vitamins are regulated but there is a danger of toxicity with fat soluble vitamins, b vitamins and trace mineral. The best information you can get about supplements would be from peer-reviewed science journals or even http://www.webmd.com/ . And I'd suggest talking to a Nutritionist before choosing something because there's a good chance you can get it from your diet and there's a small chance that taking multiple things could cancel out postive nutrient functions.
I hope that's not too preachy. :D Its just fresh in my mind from this semester!!

Also please be careful with drug interactions. While most vitamins are fine, there are a lot of interactions between pain meds, anti-depressants etc and herbal medications. You need to talk to a person knowledgable about supplements and medications to make sure there are no surprises. I have had issues form some things in detox (cleansing) pills. Also, when you take Effexor or Wellbutrin you cannot take glucosamine. It limits the effectiveness of the anti-deppressant.
I also find flax seed, and grape seed oil helpful.

there's quite a few drug interaction checkers in the useful sticky - some include vitamins and herbs - you might have to check to see which ones do - I can't remember.

here it is -

Great site for looking up vitamins and minerals.

Try to find a homeopathic store. We have one here and they have a licensed pharmacist/naturopath and I took in all my blood tests and meds and reviewed with hm and he made suggestions and took into account interactions.

I use two brands that i like metagenics and new chapter organics.

the best place for interactions with

drugs is this:

This is the most complete source on the net I have found so far.

For brain nutrients:

b12

Flax seed oil or seeds ground. Something like 10,000 stronger than fish oil nutrients.

I like a Gatorade type drink - I don't know why but it clears my skin and makes me feel better.

Eating pure real food is always better than fried fast food. Remember that a LOT of chicken and beef and shrimp "comes from" (or is distributed by) China, where there are few if any checks. (The head checker from last year committed suicide over the dog food problem.) So your favoriate fast food place's $2 burrito may be from chicken literally flown around the world...yuck.

Try to buy local fresh food. NO preservatives, fake color, etc., food life extenders or food smoothers or thickeners that aren't real and you don't know what they are - so they are chemicals. READ the labels.

When making salads, start having a salad night where you start with torn greens, (don't buy those packages, but if you do, rinse with cold water throughly as they could have been processed right after a meat processing and maybe picked up something), add things like raising and nuts, or goat cheese and nuts, etc., to raise the nutrient level.

Do not buy salad dressing anymore. Use virgin olive oil as a base. Then add lemon juice. Then you can add anything - mustard, or cheeses, spices, etc. If you want a light dressing, use a light good oil, and you can use rice vinegar and soy sauce, or add a little peanut butter to get that good Asian taste. Does anyone buy dressing anymore? (Except on rare occasion?)

ALSO, wheat germ comes regular or honey nut, so you can add that to salads salty or sweetish, and really make a good salad the people won't even notice the wheat germ. I like Kretcner's (sp?) It's also good as a tsp. in soup. Or on ice cream, before the hot chocolate addition. Really tasty.

I am becoming, evolving, into a vegetarian because I hate how animals have to die for a steak! Anyone else getting like this?
