does having a few seizers mean epilepsy

Iam 38 and have had a few seizers starting when I was 13 I never told anyone until I had one while my sister was cutting my hair and she called 911 when I woke up she was on the phone and i told her to tell them I was ok and did not need help but she told them to come. I am not sure why ive never sought help before for this and when I went to E.R the doc told me to see a specalised but still havent gone to see one. I waited untill I was 32 to seek help for my depression and was told that I had bi polor, scitso affefive disorder, but I never told my pyciatrist about my seizers. Is this common for peaple that have seizers not to say that they do. and could i be misdionosed i herd that people who have seizers often have bi polor symtoms and treat with simalar meds. Just thought someone here might have same problems. thanks

rory, You should go see a neurolgist or an epileptologist (specialist in epilepsy). Usually 2 or more sz means epilepsy. You probably don't want to say/admit you had the sz's because you don't want to be told you might have epilepsy.

Hi rory,
Welcome to the forum! If a person has at least 5 sz. it means they have epilepsy. As lor mentioned you should see a neurologist or an Epileptologist. My best advice to you is to see an Epileptologist at an Epilepsy Center which are usually at University Hospitals. I started having sz. when I was 10 yrs. old and I got moody, depressed, and had a hot temper. It wasn't until I had brain surgery back in 1994 to help reduce my sz. that all of that went away. I'm 45 now and by going to an Epilepsy Center you would deal with and Epileptologist and neurophycologist and if want surgery done a neurosurgeon. These 3 Drs. work together as a team, can pinpoint the type and cause of your sz. and if you want surgery they can tell you if it will be safe and successful. Also get a calendar and write down each time you have a sz. along with description of the sz. Make any notes if you've been sick, under a lot of stress, feeling tired, or if there's a low pressure in the weather these are all things that can trigger sz. for people but the 2 main things are stress and lack of sleep. by keeping a calendar of your sz. your Dr. may be able to see a pattern as to what days of the month or what time of the day/night you are more likely to have any sz. Also stay away from anything with nutra sweet in it. ex. diet soda. It's been proven that foods and beverages with nutra sweet cause more electrical activity in the brain which can cause sz. for many people. If bright lights are bothering you leading to sz. that means you may be photosensitive where certain colors trigger sz. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!
