Nitroglycerin to treat RSD?

I am starting in with a new pain management group this week and one of the doctor's made a comment that they are seeing good results (not sure in what way) by applying nigroglycerin cream to an area just outside of where RSD nerves are troublesome. This doctor mentioned it can help in wound healing and has helped his patients with RSD in their feet.

I don't have any more info at this time because I just had a consultation today with a follow-up in two weeks. Has anyone ever heard of this as part of a treatment plan?

I have an initial consultation with the head doctors of this group on June 12. I hope they know what they are doing and not some type of "quack" operation. I am cautiously approaching this PM group and I will let you know what additional information I found out.

Lisa,

I haven't heard of it either. But I will give you a call. I would THINK and even though I don't have RSD but small fiber PN or Central Pain Syndrome, that this would have been mentioned to me a long time ago. It must be something new. But I wanted to ask if you have started the Lyrica yet. And wanted you to know I started it two days ago. The 25mg is just fine in case you are wondering. I was not looped out or anything. But again, I will give you a call. I would love to hear more about this myself! :)

That's funny.

I went to the emergency room a couple years back because I thought I was having a heart attack. The pain was spreading into the area around my heart and it felt different than the other pain and didn't respond to the painkillers at all.

When they gave me nitro it improved immediately. They said it wasn't a heart problem though.
