It's creeped into my lungs.. the tingles.

I haven't had numbness very bad for very long really, only since February. Some tingles before, and a phantom stabber, and some back tingling but nothing that dropped me on the floor too bad really. It started with a tingling in my thigh one night, and when I woke up my legs were completely numb, and I couldn't walk. I haven't walked right since that episode, but since that happened, that numbness, like a layer over my skin has been crawling into other areas of my body, bi-laterally, and relentlessly. With my legs, it left them numb, and me with a stagger. With my hands, it started one finger at a time, and went to my shoulder.. it left my fingers curled in and shrinking. This week it crept to my lips, my tongue, my throat, and now I can feel that tingle when I breathe.

I've had severe swallowing problems in the past as well as breathing problems. The problems doing so aren't so bad today, but the tingles have me kind of scared. I haven't lost any abilities, and don't feel weaker than usual. I feel like I should call the neuro, but I don't want to sound annoying or crazy.

I just don't know if this is normal for ms or what. Feels weird. No pain though..so that's cool. My lips are numb as well.

almost wondering if this is my ms at all actually. Anyone have anything like this before?

What has the Neuro. done in the past for the swallowing/breathing problems? I'm sorry you're going through this all, it does sound scary. I keep having these zaps in the center of my forehead, but I have a crack in my skull by being hit by an aluminum baseball bat when I was 4 and fracturing my skull. So, I never know if its MS or something else. Call your Neuro. just to make sure you're ok, I will be thinking about you and hoping you feel better soon!

From what you have described, it sounds very unnerving and worthy of a phone call for sure, to your neuro. So sorry for what you are going through. I hope it resolves soon.

Well, my breathing isn't any worse, but i'm going to call my neuro tomorrow. My eyes are sort of making my chest jump looking at the screen. May be a flair. Maybe it will clear up on it's own. Thanks for the advice guys. Gonna call tomorrow morning.

I had some very bad numbness and spasticity the first two years after my first big relapse. I'd had a lot of stress and I wasn't on DMD's so I assume that made it worse.

I hope this is just the accumulation of a big relapse for you and that it will pass. I had numb face and hands with slurring and swallowing problems. I was slamming my fingers in the car door and couldn't type. It has improved a lot. I hope you'll start feeling better soon.

I have gone through exactly what you are going through, Noidy. It was from an inflammed lesion very high up in the C-spine.

The mouth, lips, etc. lasted only a week or so. The fingers and arms lasted longer, but they were not 100% numb all the time (unlike the legs, torso, etc., which were constantly numb for months).

The breathing and swallowing are important symptoms to have checked out. I did not at the time, but I detinitely would the next time.

I think I know what you mean by the tingles creeping into the lungs. I thought it was my voicebox actually, and it felt like a cracked speaker (internally) when I talked.

There is not much they can do for this kind of attack . . . but the good news is that I would suggest it is finally running it's course. If things go the same way for you, you should start to improve over the next week or two. The numbness might go away suddenly and completely in some areas, and may "creep" away in others.

Like I said, I would follow up on the swallowing and breathing issues. Also, is it possible you have an untreated infection going on somewhere . . . like bladder, teeth . . . anything?

Thank you lady express. I too have a lesion high in my cervical spine. It may be acting up. I am dehydrated again from swallowing problems, so I may have (yet another) bladder infection.

My live is a bladder infection, or that's how i feel sometimes. I can't tell if I'm infected or dehydrated sometimes because it feels similar, and the dehydration leads to infection alot. I'll give my pcp a call whether this tingle clears up or not. You may be onto something. Thanks.

I'd call my Neuro. Never be afraid to call them - or think you are sounding like an alarmist or something. You pay them for their expertise. It's not like they are doing it on a volunteer basis at no charge. If my Neuro ever makes me feel like I am demanding too much attention then I'll be moving on to another Neuro. I have MS - he doesn't. I think he can learn alot from me!!! Good luck!! :)

I called my neruo this morning, and they told me just to go to the E.R. if I have any bad breathing problems, or can't swallow again. They made me an appt. for monday in the meantime. :)

It's not as bad today as last night, so maybe this will clear up. I was really dehydrated last night from some probs with swallowing I've had all week, so I ate some jello, and that seemed to help alot.

Hope i make it through the weekend with no E.R. trip. Our e.r. where I live is a little on the awful side, so I try to avoid that place as much as possible. The neruo told me I may need to go in for an IV of fluids if I'm not drinking right by tomorrow. Think I'm gonna pick up some stuff called "thick it" today to see if that helps me get some water down. I bet it wouldn't be too bad if I add kool aid to it. Thanks for the advice everyone.
