Disability?

My family who pays for everything and though is very kind is driving me bonkers and making more choices for me then is ok. An issue with that is they cover all my expenses and bills since I am unable to work so it is now there way since I have been making some bad choices. As many know health issues and constant pain can cloud ones thinking. though I saw a psych on Fri who was in agreement with me that this is very hard to face every day. Finally someone who didn't tell me how to feel. What a breath of fresh air. I was wondering about disability and what I file for and how long it takes to know? I am 30 too. I heard though I can still file for social security. Any ideas and thank you

there is a social security board here and also at that other site i cant mention on here.

what you would file for would depend on how many work credits you have. at 30 you would need to have half of the work credits that you could have possibly had by working from 21 until the time you are disabled. At 31 you would need 20 work credits or quarters. there are 4 work credits in a year you can earn but it doesnt mean you have to work the whole year it would depend on how much you made that year. right now its 1000 dollars a credit so if you earned 4,000 even if you earned it in one month you would get 4 credits. if you dont have enough work credits for ssdi then you could apply for ssi which is also disability but is income based.

it could take 3 months to over 3 years to know if you are successful in your application depending on what level you are approved.

Daniella: if you need help/info in applying for Social Security disability then I urge to to contact Mike Finkelstein. Mike is a pro and thoroughly understands the application procedures and is more than willing to be of help. He does not charge for his expertise or help and does this service simply out of the goodness of his heart. He is a fellow PNer and thoroughly understands. Mike does not fill out the papers for you but guides you from the beginning to the finish. He knows exactly what to put on the application and what NOT to include. He does not charge anything for his service but I would hope that if he gets you approved that you would provide him with a stipend after you receive your first check. Mike has helped lots of members here with their application as well as members of the Neuropathy Association and the NPNC and almost all have been approved on the FIRST try!!! I'm sure there are still some active members here that Mike has helped so I hope they will come forward and verify what I am telling you.
You can reach Mike at his email address: mike3736@hotmail.com AND by phone: 1-718-966-3736. He lives in the EASTERN TIME ZONE so consider that as you call. He says the best time to call him is between 10 PM and midnight EST.
Good luck. - DanP from Tennessee

Thank you so much. You are all the best. I found that thread on disability too and will email that gentleman first and then maybe I will see if I can call him. I know it is a long process. What is frustrating is I see here how many people get denied and are in horrible health. Then I have a couple friends for mental problems only get disability. I am not talking mental problems where they can't function but just have issues. Well I am not even 30 yet but almost and didn't have a lot of work accomplished due to my past eating disorder and I was hospitilized a lot. I guess we will see. Thanks

The first and foremost thing is that you do absolutely nothing, now.
Do not fill out any forms with any information regarding your health or
any pre-application forms to anyone - anywhere.
First, talk to Mike Finkelstein.
Then, do.... what ya gotta do.
(There are a few horror stories about SSDI with people who filed forms, & then were rejected, & then.... talked to Mike - too late)
