Stress and MS Study: Participants Needed! (Downtown Chicago / Evanston)

The Stress and MRI Changes in Multiple Sclerosis Study is a research study investigating whether two types of stress management programs can reduce exacerbations and the occurrence of new brain lesions. This study is being conducted by the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

We are looking for people who:
*Have a relapsing form of Multiple Sclerosis (relapsing remitting or secondary progressive)
*Experience MS exacerbations

If you take part in the study you would receive:
*One of two stress management programs - either a 16 week intensive program
including weekly meetings with a stress management specialist OR An
intensive 1-day workshop teaching stress management skills.
*7 MRI scans with gadolinium injections over the course of 12 months (you will receive copies of your MRI scans after you complete the study).
*7 blood draws over 12 months to examine your immune functioning.
*7 saliva tests over 12 months to assess your stress hormones.
*You will be paid up to $540.00 for completing all of the evaluations and MRIs.

All MRI scans and blood draws will take place at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in downtown Chicago.

Therapy sites are located in downtown Chicago and Evanston.
