Oh, ick!

I just saved all my bookmarks to a separate file, because we want to
update soon!

I hope someone comes along, Lara with an answer to this one!
My husband just downloaded FF 2.0 to our new laptop which came on Tues.
But it doesn't have any bookmarks yet!

This will give me a chance to clean up my list...which has some old inactive
links in it! ;)

Oh, Lara... I would have had major palpitations, if that had happened to me!
How did you get them back?

Jomar 10-26-2006 01:17 PM

didn't see the new version yet - maybe just as well

can you roll back farther??

I have up graded netscape & FF many times before and never had a problem but I always cross import all my bookmarks so If one has a prob i can use the other browser. and re import bookmarks/passwords ect.

now I'll be nervous about upgrading FF. keep us updated on it

FYI for those with Firefox

To backup bookmarks in Firefox:
Click on:
Bookmarks
Manage bookmarks
File
Export
Then choose a name and location to save to.

Lara,

If you have a USB port the flash drives are cheaper than floppies. Although you can get high capacity ones, my favorite is the 64 megabyte (that = 44 floppies) for $9.99 at Staples. You can hang them on a string or Velcro them to the side of your computer.

suggestion...

My son today had this suggestion for protecting your bookmarks when
updating to Firefox 2.0... He says to download FF 2 using IE.

We have not downloaded it yet...but I did export my bookmarks to a
new file, just in case.

I use http://murl.com for my bookmarks. That way I can access them from any computer and, if I install a Microsoft upgrade which blows away my operating system  I can still access my bookmarks.

I've been using this guy's product for years. The server uptime is unbelievable. You can mark your bookmarks public/private -- I make the ones that I want to share with others (like my medical-reseach and my job-hunting bookarks) public,

I download a copy periodically to my harddrive just in case. 'cause I did have one company years and years ago go out of business (this was a service that I paid for) so ...

great idea, Moose!

I wanted to update, that we successfully did the upgrade--hubby did it after I crashed for the night. He used IE too. My bookmarks were unaffected.

I want to warn you tho, it now has a spell check in it. So if you use abbreviations, or misspell, it will underline it for you. (I got red underlined just now for using carbs as term in another post). So don't freak out.

Also we downloaded a great addition..called Evernote.
Right clicking on the "misspelled" term, gives an option to EverNote.
We did the EverNote first. It is a pretty nice little program with a neat
tutorial (wish everything came this way...sigh). It was free. And FF 2.0 puts it right into your top icons for clicking.

I just upgraded mine too - no problems at all.

Why? All I do is tell FF in Options to ASK me where to download every time. Then I save it to my hard drive.

As to saving bookmarks, TC44 is right. THEN to make my IE bookmarks match, I delete everything in my Favorites and then import it from FF. Also I use Foxmarks which is a FF extension to keep my bookmarks somewhere else. It synchronizes between computers. That way the ones on my desktop and the ones on my laptop MATCH. Liz

I loooooooove the spell checker (and there's another red line!). I used to open word or google words if I had a brain-toot and forgot how to spell something (which means I never really knew).

Also, I upgraded with no problems regarding my bookmarks. I updated my theme, too which is rather snazzy.

I hope everything came back and is working for you now!
