Tempurpedic Anyone?

Went mattress shoping today.

DH's back is sore when he wakes up and our mattress is getting old.

So today we must have tried like 20+ mattresses.

Narrowed it down and really loved the Tempurpedic.

So anyone have one?

Thoughts, opinions?

Thanks

They do hold in the body heat - so that can be a good thing or a not so good thing- if you tend to have sweats or overheat at nite.

Shelley:

Alan and I could not afford the tempurpedic mattress, so we did the next best thing. We went to Overstock.com and purchased three Visco Elastic Foam (that's exacty what the Tempurpedic is made of). We placed all three on top of our mattress. Put a nice sheet on , and VOILA, we created our own Tempurpedic Mattress.

I CANNOT BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW SOUNDLY ALAN SLEEPS.

For us, it's the best mattress in the world. Others might not like the fact that it conforms to every curve, to every place in your body. There's no hard spots, nothing pinches you. You lay on a cloud. (You know, you obviously tested this).

We go the 3 and 4 inch mattress toppers.

Alan remarks every morning AND I MEAN EVERY MORNING when he gets up. He says: "OH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS MATTRESS, DON'T YOU EVER CHANGE IT".

So you have your endorsement by someone who has been sleeping on this for over two years now.

I even have the pillows. lol

I find...

that a good "topper" (one that is not as thin as a postage stamp) is very good.

When I hurt my leg...I couldn't even move it...the pain was soooo overwhelming.... I HAD to get one.

I was on vacation in the boonies, so hubby had to go home to work, so he picked up a twin for me (we only have twin beds because of space and difficulty on an island). It did the trick.
I could then sleep.

I think there is one downside to the full Temper...type matress.
That is if you have osteoporosis, or any major other problem,
you can have difficulty moving and getting up from it.
A poster on our PN board mentioned this, and she has developed several pelvic fractures with no injuries... to cause them. She mentioned once she suspected the Tempurpedic mattress was a contributing factor.

They are also HOT in summer or humid conditions.
My topper gets HOT and you can have night sweats.
(easily fixed tho by sleeping NUDE :yahoo: )

Suggestion: The toppers can move around on the mattress, esp if you are a tosser/turner.
Tossing around is less because of the comfort, but some people do move around anyway.
Those waffle mats sold to put under throw rugs...the rubbery ones, placed between the topper
and your mattress will stop sliding movement.
We have an old mattress too, but it is VERY firm. So there are no sags even now.
But it is just too hard now for my pain issues. The topper works very well.

We have them on all the beds up North now..since it is cheaper and easier to upgrade an old
bed with them. It is a horrible task getting furniture or any large object out to our place.
So upgrades are very attractive to me there! ;)

Mrs. D.

Explain the "HOT" part of sleeping on the visco elastic foam topper.

I put two sheets over mine. The kind that fit snugly in the corners. Nothing moves. We used to have the topper moving all over the place. That was before we got two more of them. So three toppers over a mattress, over a box spring, with BIG sheets fitting snugly in the corners (the sheet fits over the toppers and over the mattress).

I have a queen size, so I got King size sheets. They fit snuggly over the corners, so I just tuck them in. Noting moves.

And the hot part. Never had that happen. Doesn't the sheet (or in my case, sheets), prevent that??

AND AS FOR SLEEPING NUDE!!! You couldn't pay me enough money to do that. I don't want to frighten Alan when he wakes up. lol lol

Now if looked like Mariah Carey, that's a whole other story!! lol

mrsD 06-08-2008 08:55 AM

mine moves

and I have had others tell me too. (that is where I got the
idea for the waffle thingy--from a friend).

I use Jersey sheets...they stretch quite well. I am not using 3 toppers
which would be possible to use a king sheet with. A single topper and
the fit would be different. The new Jersey sheets are slightly larger, and work
best for me. (we have a Queen)

But I get movement just the same. Esp on the twin up north.
I am a tosser/turner. Sticking my PN feet out, etc.

And they are HOT... if yours is not, then you are an exception.
I have read many many others report on the heat.
In winter it is nice, in summer, less nice.

Shelley if you get one--a topper--- you will have to air it out.
Some really stink majorly. I had to put mine out on our dock
for two whole days. ( I can't stand chemical fumes, I get asthma from chemicals).

Mrsd I'll never think of you quite the same way now :wink:

Well ladies you have given me some great advice. A topper might be a nice compromise.

The hot part really worries me since DH gets hot during the night.

And the sales guy warned us about the smell in the beginning.

OK I am off to investigate toppers today.

Thanks for all the insight!:hug:

Boy, I must have been the luckiest person when I got my 3 from Overstock.com. I had to carefully uncompress it, then I laid it out on my dining room table. Next day it was all shaped up. We just carried it over to the bed and there it was. We bought 3 toppers over a period of 6 months. I honestly don't know what Alan would do if I took them off of the mattress. (and there was no odor when they arrived). Maybe different manufacturers??

All I know is that today it's around 95 degrees and getting higher, (we do NOT have air conditioning in the living room. Never had. But we do put it on at night in the bedroom.)

I hate air conditioning. My arthritis hates it. I like heat.

Well I most certainly have it today, don't I?? lol
