Have you looked at the Clinical Trial Site lately?

Have you looked at the Clinical Trial site lately for MS?

There are some very interesting clinical trials that are being recruited right now.

One for "probable MS" for a T-Cell vaccine.

Another comparing Copaxone against Interferons for bone density changes

The use of cranberry for frequent UTIs in MS Patients:

You should check out the link in the sticky above for Clinical Trials. There are a lot of them recruiting right now! Some for MRIs, lots of things.

I wonder if that's the vaccine they spoke about at the Wellness Expo. It was like taking some of your blood, pulling things out and then reintroducing things back into your system. I do remember the gentleman speaking saying something about how expensive this would be because you would have to send the blood out..and then the vaccine would be sent back and you only had a window of like 3 hours or something. It was definitely interesting! I could just be messing the different therapies up because my brain is melted from GA sun.

They might have been talking about the clinical trial I am in, Tovaxin. It's a T-Cell vaccine. Patient specific. They take your blood, draw off the T-cells, find the ones that are Myelin reactive, irradiate them, and then reproduce them in a lab setting, make a vaccine out of them, put them back into your blood and give you a vaccine. You get 1/2 in each arm, subq at intervals predetermined according to the protocol. I think I got 5 vaccines over the 7 month period.

Opexa is the only company that has a patent to test for Myelin Reactive T-cells or MRTCs. It's actually quite fascinating. The scientists are doing studies on B-cell MS and T-cell MS.

Here's a link to an article about Tovaxin that was released just this week.

The other study is a new one and I am not sure what it is, it just says T-cell vaccine for probable MS.

Cheryl,

You're right, I think that was the one they were talking about. Do you like the study you're in? One doctor kinda scared me with telling everyone if you're newly diagnosed hurry up and jump on a DMD so you can push back the next relapse & here I am contemplating a study with maybe 2 yrs of a placebo. I still think I want to do it.. cause right now I'm not on anything either so there is no real difference and if this oral pill works and they give it out in the future, then it's worth it.

Thanks for the link, that also looks promising for the future! I wouldn't mind doing that study as well.. I don't mind being a guinea pig! :)

It's been very interesting to say the least. We prefer to be called "lab rats." LOL!

The protocols are very stringent. I have enjoyed it up until the past couple of weeks. New coordinator and I have had some bumps, let's say.

I have actually finished the double blind portion of the trial and am waiting to get into the extension study where I will get the real drug.

Look at it as free meds with strings attached.

Would I do it again? In a heart beat.

Thank you for the new information about the clinical trials. It actually sounds very encouraging with how patient specific it is.

I am so sorry you are limited in what you can take while you are on the trial.

I was raised to drink lots of honey with lemon, in tea. Actually there is some truth about chicken soup, too when you are sick, because it can warm up your nasal passages.

Wish we could send you some chicken soup! Feel better soon.

I am sorry I gave you the wrong impression. :(

You are not limited ... you just have to get it approved. OTC meds, med changes, dose changes, etc. It's just an extra step.

I CHOSE to do this and I live 450 miles away from the clinical trial site.

It's closed anyway. The Phase IIb extension study is by invitation only for those who were in the Phase IIb study.

Try one of the others! Some are not age restricted.
