What your doctor wont tell you
Things your doctor wont tell you. Reader's Digest article.
Some are surprising...others not as much. http://www.rd.com/living-healthy/41-...icle75920.html Lists 41 secrets of doctors. Here are some examples: "We're impatient" They don't like your cell phone to be on They wear a gown on purpose to intimidate you. They don't want to be your "mom" They want you to be responsible for your own health and it frustrates them when patients are irresponsbile They WILL judge your appearance |
I read that article. One of the doctors they quoted came across as so mean-spirited that I made a mental note: never make an appointment with him, even if I'm bleeding from a major artery.

yes, over the last 40+yrs I have
had "thrilling" examples of doctor attitude on the phone.
And I was invited to a house warming once that was all medical. I am also an artist and this psychiatrist purchased a watercolor of mine and invited me to this every fixey brunch. The conversation THERE was appalling. I have never forgotten it, and it horrified my hubby too. I even had a GP (my husband's family doctor) tell me extreme inaccurate diagnosis when I went to him when we moved here. Needless to say, I didn't go back to HIM. This is the painting BTW... It looks rather amateurish to me now, since this was back in the mid '70's! :o I was also interested at the brunch...While the caterers were working in the kitchen they opened cupboards, and on the top shelves where HUGE stock bottles of mega vitamins! I mean like bottles of 5000! This psychiatrist was working with orthomolecular treatments I guess? The shrink guests (one was a famous local forensic psychiatrist) were much more civil. It was the surgeons who were the most disrespectful of their patients. Making fun of them, talking about money/patients...really crude stuff. This house warming was at a very ritzy (at the time) place. A huge estate that was sold and converted to condos. (that was new in the '70's). This area was popular with the very rich, and Aretha Franklin used to live there too, along with many other celebrities. We knew absolutely NO ONE at this party...so I just listened and observed. It was thrilling to see my work in a place of honor tho...very thrilling in that way. ( I could have charged MUCH more I guess in price ! LOLOL) |
I liked this part:
Free Advice • Avoid Friday afternoon surgery. The day after surgery is when most problems happen. If the next day is Saturday, you're flying by yourself without a safety net, because the units are understaffed and ERs are overwhelmed because doctors' offices are closed. --Heart surgeon, New York City • In many hospitals, the length of the white coat is related to the length of training. Medical students wear the shortest coats. --Pediatrician, Baltimore • Often the biggest names, the department chairmen, are not the best clinicians, because they spend most of their time being administrators. They no longer primarily focus on taking care of patients. --Heart surgeon, New York City |

I always have bare ankles (they look to see if you have swollen ankles), and I wear easy to remove clothing. That way I don't need a gown...my doctor has learned this so the visit is easier and more efficient. |
they wont tell you that people die from colonosopys sometimes
