Hello tired and welcome to NeuroTalk. I don't have RSD, I have MS but I hear where you're coming from.
I'm a 57 year old grandmother but I'm also a retired nurse! I do understand your question and as age has no barriers when it comes to pain, why should age be a barrier when it comes to pain medications? I wish I could answer to that for you! There are many strong pain killers around these days that don't fall into the opiate (or Morphine type) variety. Not all pain killers are addictive, but all do need to be used with caution. Have you been offered anything stronger than Paracetamol, and if not .... did any-one say why not? I can certainly understand why a doctor would not want to be starting a young person on the road to dependence when it comes to pain killers, but surely there must be something they can do for you! May I suggest you post something similar to this in our medication forum, with the hope that our medication expert "Mrsd" might see it, and offer her advice? Here's the direct link to our Medication Forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum72.html |
Hi. I understand and am sorry. I am older 29 but if I hear one more time the doc say your young and we don't want you on a lot of meds I will scream. I understand where they are coming from cause I don't want other issues but at the same time how am I suppose to make it to an older age in chronic hell pain. Have you been to a pain doc like anestesologist? I encourage you to go to one because for myself I have been offered more long term relief through them rather then gp or a neuro. I encourage you to state to your doc what you have here. Hang in there.

Hi, TOT! :Wave-Hello: Welcome to NeuroTalk!
You have come to the right place, my friend, many great people here know just how you feel. Ali is another young teen with RSD, she's a great kid and will probably have some tips for you. I hope you'll get some relief soon. |

On the flip side I am now allergic to all pain meds, with the exception of morphine. I don't know if starting them so young caused that, or just bad luck. |
Hi, Have The Doctor's You Have Seen Specialize In Rsd? Also, Did You Have Your Surgery Before You Were Diagnosed With Rsd? You Should Definatly Be On Pain Med. I've Seen 5 Doctors Until I Found One That I Really Like. Don't Give Up. My Heart Goes Out To You.
