"...an exceedingly rare view of the system at work".

...gives names and figures. A must-read about scientific research and industry funding.

Interesting

and disturbing to read. At one point in my life I considered going into the trades and becoming a welder (back in the late 70's). The pay was very very good for a female, and I was a single mom. Someone told me there would be no shortage of work for me because I was smaller than a man and I could fit into places men couldn't fit because of size...like inside large pipes! That was the end of that for me..... It makes me wonder as I read this if PD was just part of my destiny. I know, it's a really off the wall thought but I thought I'd bounce it anyway...

is there a ladder of corruption?

In politics one does not reach the White House with one's soul intact. Is there a similar phenomenon at work in science?
