I have a theory about DBS.
 

I had DBS last October. My primary symptom was ineffective on time and dyskinesia. I have been thinking about this for some time now. The medical community does not in fact know how DBS works, accroding to my neurosurgeon. It is thought that by the time PD is diagnosed you have lost 50-80% of your ability to produce dopamine. DBS does not stimulate the brain to produce dopamine. I theorize that DBS in effect blocks the irregular signals much like a defibrillator works on the heart. Then you either have enough of the substania niagra and dopamine to walk, etc or you don't. That is why for me the DBS heps me to no longer have dyskinesia but I am NOT any better as far as motor functioning. It's just that now I can tolerate the doseage of sinemet that my body needs without having the negative side effects.

Then again in referring to an earlier post maybe I just think I had DBS surgery last October. :eek:
