Numbness on left side post CVA

Dear NeuroTalkers,

I'm new to your community, and for unfortunate reasons - I had a minor CVA in my right hemisphere a week ago, diagnosed by MRI. I have residual minor numbness all along my left side, particularly in my left hand, but no motor limitation. I as wondering if any of you are aware of effective therapy approaches to hastening the return of normal sensory status in such a case.

I have read some interesting articles about thermal stimulation (alternating application or non-application of a hot pad for up to 15 seconds, then doing the same with cold).

Anyone tried this or know about it?
What about electrical or other stimulatory approach?

Many thanks and good health!

Hi, Andy...

I'm happy to meet you. I'm not sure if alternating heat and cold will help with the numbness in your hand or not, but I have been told that it helps people with numness in their gums. So why not try it out? It wouldn't cost much, and I don't see how it could hurt anything. Good luck, Andy. I hope you get this figured out. :)

Hi there Andy, I'm so pleased to meet you.

Sorry to hear about your stroke and as a retired nurse I do understand what you're going through.

We have a forum here on NeuroTalk where hopefully you'll be able to get some advice and support from others going through the same issues as you.

Here's the link: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum23.html

Hi Andy and welcome to NeuroTalk! Happy to have you here - not for the reasons you stated in your post, though. I do hope you can find some relief and answers. I can relate to the numbness as my right arm and hand is numb (I have MS) and has been for 9 months.

I see Koala has provided you with a link to the Stroke Forum. I hope you visit there....possibly someone there has heard about the Thermal Stimulation and can advise you on it. :)
