Q. about my rights...
I am up on the third floor of my apartment. When we moved in here my RSD was not anything like it is now. I could go down the stairs about once a day every couple of days.
Now the RSD has gotten much worse. I now have it from my hips down. I can't go down 3 flights of stairs any more. We still have 9 months left on our lease. They are telling me that I can move to a bottom floor apartment, but they want us to pay everything all over again. We can't afford that (they want a $600 fee for my dog). They wont give me my $300 pet fee back, and they wont transfer anything over. I asked if we could just get out of our lease and they said they would not let us out. Can they really keep me in a 3rd floor apartment if I can't walk? Oh and this was said, and I about hung up... "Even if you are in a wheelchair, you still cannot be let out of your lease. Even if we do not have another apartment open for you. Besides you would have to pay all the deposits over again any place you move to" |
You might call or email those questions to state or county housing dept?
Or email a lawyer about it? discrimination?? ADA might be able to help? http://www.ada.gov/ It seems if someone has a medical reason they should be able to get a fee break or move without paying fees again.. :( one place I read says get your lease agreement and read it yourself to be sure they aren't feeding you a line. there are usually special circumstances that are allowed. Did you contact the higher ups to talk/explain your circumstances to them. You might have more luck than with manager esp if you have a note {from dr/drs} with your dx and limitations to forward to them.. |

I'm not sure what my next step will be after that. One thing at a time. :( |
